Assistant Nurse Manager – Inpatient Oncology (Full‑time Night)

Location:

Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, New Jersey.

Overview

Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) nurses care for patients and their families at every stage of life, 24 hours a day, at bedsides in 9 community hospitals, 4 academic medical centers, a behavioral health hospital, 2 children’s hospitals, 2 rehabilitation hospitals, medical offices, and care facilities across the state. The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is a professional, registered nurse who is a skilled communicator, collaborator, and authentic leader.

The ANM supports the organization in the execution of the nursing strategic plan and priorities. The ANM actively participates in unit and hospital decision‑making and provides meaningful recognition to others. The ANM provides operational and administrative support to Nurse leadership, effectively coordinating staffing, supporting throughput, quality and safety outcomes, staff competency, hiring, clinical and staff corrective actions, unit efficiency, quality care and other departmental activities to support the mission, vision and values of Hackensack Meridian Health.

The ANM, in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, assesses, plans, implements, monitors and evaluates nursing practice and the nursing care delivery system with direct supervision of front‑line staff.

Responsibilities
  • Participate with recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Assist with unit huddles and leader rounding with employees.
  • Participate with unit goal creation reflective of the hospital goals, mission and vision of HMH.
  • Participate or lead evidence‑based practice projects or research.
  • Participate or lead unit‑based or hospital‑based shared governance committees or councils.
  • Resolve conflicts and facilitate constructive resolutions and positive outcomes.
  • Complete employee corrective action plans/counseling as necessary.
  • Adhere to HMH’s Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Prepare and conduct periodic performance evaluations for assigned staff members.
  • Contribute to or monitor the unit orientation process of all roles as necessary.
  • Participate with and model the importance of employee recognition.
  • Model cultural competence, social justice and fairness, and capitalize on generational diversity to foster highly effective work groups.
  • Where applicable, escalates nursing labor/management issues.
Financial Management
  • Participate in payroll, staff scheduling and daily staffing needs.
  • Assist in the management of the department budget and monitor business intelligence for the unit.
  • Maximize care efficiency and throughput.
  • Understand the relationship between value‑based purchasing and quality outcomes with revenue and reimbursement.
  • Monitor unit staffing productivity and flex staff accordingly.
Quality and Safety / Performance Improvement
  • Optimize the patient and family experience of care.
  • Lead multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Ensure unit‑based performance improvement monitoring is completed, trended and reported internally and externally.
  • Lead or participate in quality improvement projects.
  • Lead or conduct root cause analysis investigations.
  • Assure unit regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in staff education and competency.
  • Serve as a role model to others and mentor new employees and new Charge RNs.
General Job Functions
  • Interpret, support, and communicate policies, standards and procedures.
  • Serve as a role model for staff in all aspects of nursing (professionalism, quality care).
  • Assist in identifying cost containment measures by identifying alternative measures of product utilization.
  • Serve on‑call based on unit requirements.
  • Assume special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
  • Adhere to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
  • Current and valid New Jersey Nursing license is required.
  • Minimum of an Associate in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing. BSN in progress or willing to acquire within three (3) years of hire.
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support (HCP) Certification.
  • National certification acceptable to the Magnet Recognition Program and appropriate to your current specialty (within two years of hire).
