About the Position
Job Description
We are seeking a Locum Orthopedic Surgeon to provide 24/7 emergency department and inpatient consultation coverage at a small rural community hospital with Level III trauma designation in Red Bluff, California .
This assignment is ideal for an actively practicing orthopedic surgeon comfortable managing a broad range of general orthopedic cases in a low-volume, high-autonomy environment. Higher-acuity cases are transferred to a tertiary facility.
Practice Setting
Setting: Community Hospital
Trauma Level: Level III
Licensed Beds: 72
Coverage Type: 24/7 ED and inpatient orthopedic consults
EMR: Cerner
Support Staff: Operating Room team available
Transfers: Higher-level orthopedic trauma transferred out
Assignment Details
Coverage Dates:
February 13 – February 15 (ending morning of February 16)
Shift Type: 24-Hour Call Coverage
Weekend Coverage: Yes (24-hour call)
On-Call Requirements: Continuous 24-hour call
FTE: 1.0

Hours:
Weekday: ~3.2 hours
Weekend: ~2 hours
Key Responsibilities
Provide 24/7 orthopedic call coverage
Respond to ED consults and inpatient orthopedic consultations
Perform general orthopedic procedures
Stabilize and manage orthopedic cases prior to transfer when needed
Collaborate with ED physicians and OR staff
Document care accurately in Cerner EMR
Credentialing Information
Estimated Timeframe: ~30 days (may be expedited based on provider responsiveness)
Billing Enrollment: Services provided in lieu of an existing enrolled provider (≤60 days)
Credentialing with Other Facilities: No
Travel Information
Lodging: Preferred hotels (Holiday Inn preferred)
Air Travel:
No local airport
Fly into Sacramento (SMF) and drive ~2 hours north via I-5
Avoid Redding flights

NPDB self-query (within 30 days)
Malpractice/background documentation

Requirements
Required Qualifications (MANDATORY)
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Orthopedic Surgery
Completion of an ACGME or AOA-approved residency
Active State Medical License
DEA (required during credentialing)
CA Fluoroscopy Certificate (must be obtained by start of coverage)
Actively practicing at a facility
(Must NOT be right out of residency with no clinical activity)
Clean malpractice history (highly preferred)
Availability confirmed at time of name clear
NPDB Self-Query pulled within 30 days of presentation
