American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN with telemetry experience for a fast-paced acute care unit requiring a CA RN license.
Requirements- Active CA RN license required (pending licenses not accepted)
- Current BLS certification required; ACLS (AHA) required; PALS preferred
- 2-3 years of Med/Surg specialty experience required
- Telemetry experience required
- Pediatric experience preferred; travelers without pediatric experience will not be assigned pediatric patients
- BSN not required for this position
- Acute care Medical-Surgical unit combining adult med/surg and pediatric med/surg telemetry within a 45-bed unit
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5
- Cares for patients with COPD, post-op needs, GI bleeds, OBGYN surgeries, ortho conditions, sepsis, altered mental status, chest pain r/o, stroke, cellulitis, and ETOH withdrawal
- Uses Cerner EMR
- RNs titrate Heparin and Protonix drips
- RT equipment on unit includes CPAP, BiPap, and High-flow
- 12-hour day shifts on a 7a-7p block schedule with some self-scheduling, published 30-45 days in advance
- Every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule required
- Holiday coverage required as part of the staff rotation
- On-call/standby requirement
- Floating not required but available to tele or OB units for those with relevant experience
- First to float on the unit
- Average patient length of stay is approximately 3 days
- Provide direct patient care on a very fast-paced unit with quick patient turnover
- Charge nurse serves as team lead and does not take a patient assignment
- Nursing aides staff the unit for 8-10 hour shifts, though no tech coverage is available from 1am-7am
- Hospitalist coverage is available onsite but not 24/7
- Unit-specific orientation lasts 2-3 days and includes a scavenger hunt activity
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Must pass a Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) before an offer can be confirmed
- Must pass a sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on the first day of orientation
- Candidates who fail either required test twice will be ineligible for placement with this health system for 6 months
- Candidates may not have been directly employed by this health system, including its affiliated facilities, within the past year
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
