We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a safety professional to join the Mainroad Group as a Corporate Safety Manager
. This is a full-time (office/field-based) position based out of Mainroad's office in Calgary, Red Deer, Ponoka, or Camrose, Alberta reporting directly to the Director of Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental. This position will oversee the safety program for all of Mainroad's operating companies in Alberta and Cranbrook, BC.

The successful candidates shall have the following qualifications:
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive experience in occupational health and safety, preferably within highway maintenance, construction, contracting, or a related industry.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in a management role, including demonstrated experience leading and developing safety professionals.
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Canadian Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), or a related professional designation.
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Management, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license with a clean driver's abstract is required.
  • COR and/or ISO auditor training and experience is preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, standards, and industry best practices, including applicable OHS and workers' compensation requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving corporate safety programs, policies, procedures, and management systems.
  • Strong experience conducting and overseeing complex incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and follow-up.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify organizational safety risks, analyze trends, and develop practical strategies to improve safety performance.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and evaluate safety training programs, including experience facilitating training for both small and large groups.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and manage employees while promoting accountability and a positive safety culture.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with employees, operational leaders, senior management, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex safety requirements clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive or difficult situations with professionalism, sound judgement, tact, and discretion.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and carry projects through to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to changing operational demands, priorities, and business requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other business and safety management systems.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to Mainroad Group operations throughout Alberta and British Columbia.
Job duties include, but not limited to, the following:
  • Oversee the implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of Mainroad's HSQE Management System, including ISO
    45001:2018, ISO 9001:2015, ISO
    14001:2015.
  • Review and/or develop site specific safety plans, programs, practices and rules that align with Mainroad's 2030 HSQE Strategy, OHS legislation, and ISO requirements.
  • Promote a "Safety Always" culture based on "Safety Excellence" and "Trust".
  • Support consistent implementation of the 2030 HSQE Strategy across all Operating Companies.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers, supervisors, and employees to ensure full understanding and compliance with HSQE policies and procedures.
  • Interview, select and onboard HSE department personnel, as required.
  • Manage, mentor and develop a team of Safety Advisors (5+) to promote and provide consistent support and expertise.
  • Coordinate, review and/or conduct annual COR (Certificate of Recognition) internal safety audits.
