Our Equipment group is currently looking to add a Fleet & Equipment Manager to our growing team, based in Blackfalds or Calgary, AB.

We are seeking an experienced leader who has strong knowledge of heavy equipment and rolling stock fleet management within a multi-divisional operating environment. This individual has the proven skills, competencies, and capacity to oversee fleet availability, utilization, maintenance integrity, capital deployment, and disposal across a ~$135M asset base spanning two divisions, ensuring the right equipment is in the right place, in safe working condition, at the lowest total cost of ownership.

This role will support 120–200 projects per year ranging from $2M to $150M in contract value.

Duties and Responsibilities Fleet Strategy & Capital Planning
  • Own the annual capital equipment budget and multi-year fleet renewal plans, forecasting demand by asset class and division against project pipeline and seasonal needs
  • Lead buy/sell/lease/RPO decisions across all asset classes and maintain the master asset register and lease/RPO tracker
  • Present quarterly fleet reviews to the President covering capital spend, utilization, and forward recommendations
Equipment Availability & Project Mobilization
  • Coordinate equipment assignment and mobilization across divisions to meet project start dates, resolving demand conflicts as needed
  • Manage third-party rentals and supplemental leases when owned fleet falls short, negotiating rates and tracking costs
  • Respond to field equipment breakdowns with urgency, coordinating repair, swap, or rental replacement
Repair & Maintenance Program
  • Design and enforce a preventive maintenance program across the fleet, including regulatory certifications (CVIP, cranes, pressure vessels)
  • Provide day-to-day leadership to mechanic teams across both divisional shops, including hiring, performance management, and workload priorities
  • Track R&M costs against budget, flag underperforming assets, and manage parts inventory and vendor relationships
Equipment Costing & Financial Accountability
  • Establish and maintain internal equipment charge-out rates, ensuring accurate application in project cost reporting
  • Review monthly fleet P&L and utilization reports, recommending disposition or redeployment of underperforming assets
  • Manage fleet insurance, licensing compliance, and renewals
Procurement & Disposal
  • Source, negotiate, and execute equipment purchase agreements within delegated authority
  • Manage RPO agreements from initiation through conversion, monitoring credit balances and option deadlines
  • Manage the full disposal cycle for surplus/end-of-life equipment and maintain relationships with OEM dealers and auction houses
HSE & Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure fleet compliance with Alberta and BC transportation and safety legislation, including CVIP and lifting equipment certifications
  • Manage interprovincial PST compliance as equipment moves across Alberta, BC, and Saskatchewan
  • Support incident investigation and corrective action for equipment-related incidents
Data, Reporting & Systems
  • Champion use of the Power Apps DTT system for field data capture and maintain the fleet management dashboard for real-time visibility
  • Ensure data integrity in the ERP (Eclipse) for asset transactions and support month-end close activities
  • 10 years of progressive experience in heavy equipment and fleet management in pipeline construction, oil & gas, or related industrial construction environments
  • Demonstrated experience managing a fleet of significant scale (≥ $50M replacement value) across multiple geographies
  • Proven people leadership experience: direct supervision or functional direction of mechanics, shop technicians, or equipment tradespeople, ideally across more than one location
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of pipeline construction equipment (sidebooms, excavators, dozers, air compressors) and commercial vehicles
  • Experience owning or directly contributing to capital equipment budgets, buy/sell programs, and disposal processes
  • Proficiency with ERP or asset management systems for equipment cost tracking, work orders, and depreciation
