Job Description

This position exists to provide college-wide and consortium leadership on key initiatives (e.g., college planning, enrollment management, facilities) and administrative management and leadership at Minnesota State College Southeast to the Professional and Practical Nursing Programs, and assistance with other Health Sciences Programs as identified by the Dean of Faculty & Academic Operations. This includes developing and continually improving these programs, as well as managing resources and personnel effectively to meet program outcomes.

Participation on college-wide committees and task forces is required as well as provision of leadership with college-wide initiatives. The position holder is responsible for program development and revision at the college in consultation with the other division deans. In addition, this position requires interaction with legislative governing bodies, collaborative work with other system health care programs, community stakeholders, and educational disciplines that support student learning.

Policy,

Curriculum and Program Planning Development, Evaluation

Facilitate and support faculty in the planning, development, and evaluation of curricula so student and academic program needs are met.

  • Support existing academic and career programs to ensure the program curriculum and resources are relevant. Ensure curriculum in assigned areas meets the demands of current practice, accreditation agencies, and regulatory bodies including the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
  • Lead accreditation and program approval processes, including responses to annual surveys and reports.
  • Encourage and lead curriculum/program review, development, assessment, and technological innovation. Manage curriculum based on results of the program review and evaluation process.
  • Lead development of new programs designed and based on input from relevant constituencies, needs analysis, and cost projections. Visioning and leadership will be required with this position.
  • Maintain and update admission (written and online) materials for the Nursing program.
  • Convene and/or serve on the Nursing program and other advisory committees. Maintain information on staffing and student needs and use patterns to identify upcoming needs.
  • Meet regularly with program/department faculty and other administrators to discuss and coordinate program operations, curriculum changes, development, and evaluation activities
  • Encourage and develop new opportunities and partnerships with other institutions of higher education
  • Procure, monitor, and maintain contracts with acute, long-term care, transitional care, and community site facilities for clinical instruction component of assigned program areas.
  • Ensure that students and faculty are in compliance with clinical agencies' requirements for immunizations, health records, CPR, and background studies. Initiate and maintain articulation agreements with other academic institutions. Initiate and maintain clinical affiliation agreements.
Human Resource Management

Supervise the staff of the Nursing Programs and assigned disciplines/programs so the human resource needs of the college are met.

  • Identify human resource needs and reallocate existing or create new positions as needed. Select new full-time faculty via formal search process; lead search process; and orient new staff. Recruit, select, and orient part-time and adjunct faculty in collaboration with the Dean and Human Resources.
  • Support effective teaching, new technological and teaching innovations including online teaching/learning and simulation.
  • Evaluate faculty and staff in a timely manner to promote opportunities for enhancement of teaching and professional skills as well as quality learning environments for the students.
  • Consult with HR to apply collective bargaining unit agreement/union contract provisions per statewide and Minnesota State guidelines.
  • Supervise program chairs, directors, coordinators and administrative staff in the departments assigned.
  • Recommend sabbatical plans to the academic dean or vice president and approve staff development activities.
  • Review individual development plans on an annual basis with all employees.
Class Schedule Development

Lead the process and coordination of class schedule development so courses are available to meet student demand and instructor availability.

  • Review enrollment patterns, cost/benefit information, and other data to identify class schedule opportunities, issues, and needed changes.
