Overview
We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer I/II/Senior to work in the EFIN group for the Nuclear Plant in Welch, MN. The base rate of pay for this classification starts at $48.37 to $75.05 per hour. This position performs or oversees design and engineering activities to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operations of our nuclear generation power plants.
Responsibilities- Support complex plant modifications, alternatives, calculations, and engineering evaluations.
- Determine equipment operability and maintain design basis documents.
- Resolve complex corrective action issues and support continued plant operation.
- Review existing and new design documents, programs, procedures, or contracts in support of plant operation.
- Assess adverse conditions and conduct engineering analyses.
- Plan and manage projects, including developing schedules and utilizing work management tools.
- Attend department and plant meetings, represent the company at industry events.
- Attend training and complete additional duties or projects as assigned by department leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field from an ABET‑accredited institution.
- Engineering experience with high performance ratings.
- May be required to assume emergency response duties and live within 30–60 minutes of the nuclear generation station.
- Maintenance of nuclear “fitness for duty” during off‑hours if on‑call or designated emergency response duty.
- Ability to obtain and maintain qualifications for unescorted access to Xcel Energy’s nuclear power plants.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- SRO License or certification preferred.
- Advanced degree in engineering or a related technical field preferred.
- Successful acquisition of a General Security Clearance and a Nuclear Security Clearance for unescorted access, including completion of Nuclear General Access Training (GAT) and the nuclear security screening process.

Engineer I (0 years), Engineer II (2 years), Engineer (6 years), Senior Engineer (8 years).
