The City of Redding is establishing a new eligibility list to fill full and part-time vacancies that occur during the life of the list. Under general supervision, perform a variety of technical and complex clerical tasks in support of Police Department operations and activities.
The Services Division of the Police Department is staffed seven days a week from 6:00am to 10:00pm. Full-time Police Records Technician I shifts rotate every 4-8 months. Part-time employees typically work day shifts but during training will be required to work all shifts.

- Perform technical and clerical support functions, including records management
- Receive, respond and provide information to citizens and other public or private agencies
- Fingerprint prospective employees and general public
- Collect fees, balance receipts, and transmit to the City Treasurer
- Prepare and provide documentation for District Attorney's Office and Courts
- Process warrants and traffic, criminal and civil subpoenas
- Train, assist, coordinate, and review other employees as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the job classification

- Office equipment, personal computers and word processing operations,adding machine, and copy and facsimile machines

- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Perform technical and complex clerical work
- Exercise discretion, good judgment and make sound decisions
- Work independently, prioritize work and coordinate several activities simultaneously
- Train, oversee and coordinate the work of others
- Type at least 30 wpm net
- Accurately make arithmetical calculations
- Write legibly; understand, interpret and apply policies, procedures, laws or legal documents
- Understand and follow verbal and written directions consistently
- Present a professional image
- Handle confidential and highly sensitive information
- Learn laws and regulations governing the release of police department reports and information
- Learn the function and operation of various computer and related police information systems and equipment
- Handle sensitive matters with tact and diplomacy
- Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the various job functions is qualifying
- Typical education would include high school diploma, or equivalent
- Typical experience would include one year of prior clerical experience, coursework, or training
- Successfully complete a detailed background investigation
- Willing to work weekends, differing shifts, and holidays
An online written examination will be administered 8/20/26-8/23/26.

Selection Process- Positive past employment references
- Review of a driver history record (depending on position)
- Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check (applicants 18 and older)
- Passing of a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test (depending on position)
Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating “Honorable Discharge” from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.
