Shasta County Health And Human Services Agency

The current vacancy is in the Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency, specifically in the Behavioral Health and Social Services Branch. An oral exam is tentatively scheduled for September 2026. Responses to supplemental questions are required, and the final filing date is August 28, 2026, at 12:00 PM. Salary information is $3,544 - $4,523 approximate monthly / $20.45 - $26.09 approximate hourly.

This position is in the UPEC-General bargaining unit.

The Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency partners with the community to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of Shasta County residents. The agency is organized into four branches:
Behavioral Health & Social Services, Public Health, Economic Mobility, and a centralized Administration Services. The Behavioral Health & Social Services Branch is dedicated to improving the well-being of our community through comprehensive mental health services and essential social services to adults, children, and families.

Examples Of Essential Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Instructing employees in the interpretation and application of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to the department's programs and automated systems; prioritizing and managing workload distribution; acting as a technical resource on more difficult problems or specialized issues; monitoring quality and timeliness of unit work; identifying and providing individual instruction to co-workers for work deficiencies; providing feedback to supervisor as requested;

assisting the public in person or by phone; answering inquiries related to department services, programs, and operations; obtaining information, resolving discrepancies or errors, dispersing relevant information, or referring client to the appropriate personnel or location; explaining the proper use of forms and documents; producing notices, reports, letters, legal documents, fiscal, or statistical information; processing, maintaining, and preparing forms, records, reports, and control logs;

maintaining department files; researching and assembling information; verifying that information or data is complete, accurate, and consistent; identifying and correcting deletions or errors; updating and deleting information; operating automated systems, which involves interpretation of requirements and assisting in the layout and formatting of fields, screens, and report formats utilized in database, spreadsheet, or word processing software; producing statistical, data processing, and production-related reports;

performing the initial applicant screening function and initiating case through an automated system; performing related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience sufficient to directly demonstrate possession and application of the following:
Knowledge of modern office practices, and department specific methods, procedures, policies, and regulations; programs, goals, and purpose of the assigned department;
English grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and punctuation; business letter writing; leadwork and staff development techniques and practices; computer terminology and computer keyboard arrangement; common word processing, spreadsheet, and database software packages. Ability to answer a variety of questions related to department programs and processes; exercise sound judgment when initiating processes, actions, and alternatives within established procedures and regulations; interpret and explain procedures to others;

provide verbal and written instruction to others; exercise sound judgment when prioritizing, organizing, assigning, and monitoring workload; learn the basic principles of the automated system; apply the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to initial application for the assigned departments services; apply appropriate questioning content and techniques for interviewing applicants; enter data accurately into automated system; locate, identify, and correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
