Express Employment is partnering with a local Shasta County sign shop.
About the PositionThe Sign Estimator is responsible for accurately preparing cost estimates and proposals for commercial signage projects. This role requires a strong understanding of sign fabrication, materials, installation methods, electrical requirements, and project logistics. The estimator works closely with sales, project management, fabrication, and installation teams to ensure pricing is competitive, accurate, and profitable.
Job Description / Responsibilities- Review architectural drawings, site plans, specifications, and client requests
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for signage projects
- Estimate costs for:
- Fabrication (materials, labor, equipment)
- Electrical components and permitting
- Installation (labor, equipment, access, travel)
- Subcontracted services when required
- Source pricing from vendors and subcontractors
- Prepare clear, accurate written proposals and bid documents
- Identify potential risks, exclusions, and assumptions in estimates
- Ensure estimates align with company standards, margins, and scope
- Coordinate with Sales and Project Management to clarify scope and pricing
- Support value engineering and cost‑saving alternatives when appropriate
- Maintain organized estimating records and job cost data
- Assist with change order pricing as projects evolve
- Participate in post-project reviews to improve estimating accuracy
- 2+ years of experience in sign estimating, fabrication, or installation (preferred)
- Strong understanding of:
- Illuminated and non-illuminated signage
- Channel letters, cabinets, monuments, pylons, and custom signs
- Electrical requirements and basic code considerations
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and electrical drawings
- Proficiency with estimating software, Excel, and ERP systems
- Strong math, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Experience with national rollouts or multi-location programs
- Knowledge of permitting processes across multiple jurisdictions
- Familiarity with fabrication methods (aluminum, steel, acrylic, LED systems)
- Background in electrical signage or licensed electrical knowledge
- Experience working with project managers and production teams
- Office-based with coordination across departments
- Occasional site visits or shop walk-throughs as needed
- Fast-paced environment with deadline-driven priorities
- High level of accountability for accuracy and profitability
- Accuracy of estimates vs. actual job costs
- Timely completion of bids and proposals
- Contribution to profitable, well-scoped projects
- Effective collaboration with sales, operations, and project teams
Mon-Fri full time
Compensation$20-$25 per hour depending on experience
