Mark Thomas is hiring a Construction Inspector for its Construction Management team. Under the supervision of a Resident Engineer or Construction Manager, the Construction Inspector observes and evaluates project construction to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and applicable standards. The Inspector may act as a representative for the Resident Engineer or Construction Manager when assigned. The Inspector has full authority in matters of safety related to imminent hazards or danger.

Construction Inspectors assist the Resident Engineer, Senior Inspector, and/or Construction Manager in all aspects of required field and office construction work. Tasks include, but are not limited to, inspection of non‑structural and structural construction operations, traffic‑control system compliance, CCO preparation, CPM scheduling analysis, and SWPPP enforcement. Additional areas may involve electrical and instrumentation work, plumbing and piping, power and controls, drainage systems, landscaping, and grading.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Read and interpret project plans, specifications, permits, and other contract documents, exercising sound engineering and construction judgment.
  • Document observations and inform the appropriate representative of progress, potential problems, and issues, working proactively to identify issues.
  • Prepare and submit safety meeting documentation as assigned promptly.
  • Create clear and accurate reports, diaries, and photographs documenting daily construction progress.
  • Measure, calculate, and document quantities of construction materials in accordance with designated procedures, formats, and computer programs.
  • Verify contractor work and materials conform to contractual requirements.
  • Update as‑built drawings.
  • Support the construction project team with change‑order preparation and monitoring.
  • Coordinate surveys, material testing, and sampling as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Two‑year associate’s degree in a relevant area (preferred).
  • 3–5 + years of progressively responsible experience in construction inspection, or 6–8 + years of general construction experience.
  • Knowledge of construction inspection applications.
  • Direct experience with residential pavement rehabilitation projects.
  • Proficient in MS PowerPoint and MS Project.
  • Valid driver’s license meeting eligibility requirements.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
  • Competent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with diverse individuals.

The offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. The hourly wage for covered work is determined by state prevailing wage determinations.
