Duties
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.
Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until April 28th, 2026. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be March 6th, 2026, with subsequent cut-off dates every 2 weeks. Eligible applications received after that date will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available.

Work Schedule: 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday (please see below for further details on work schedule).
Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off: 50‑55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5‑day paid absence for CME).
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% in contributions by VA.

Provider will provide clinical support for the Gastroenterology services at the VA Northern California Health Care System sites including Sacramento, Martinez, Redding, and Stockton. Provider is expected to document into CPRS in a timely manner the clinical work performed, participate in Process Improvement/Quality Assurance projects, and participate in usual Medical Staff activity including committee and development of gastroenterology‑related projects and service.
Administrative duties include general oversight of the operations of the Gastroenterology Department, providing and overseeing the scheduling of clinic and procedures, assigning and assuring that all scheduled rotations are covered, and planning for efficient patient management and throughput as well as supervision of UC Davis GI fellow(s) on clinical service at the Sacramento VA Medical Center, VANCHCS and other usual daily clinic activity.
Provider is expected to maintain Joint Commission readiness.
The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: clinical patient care, administrative oversight of the Gastroenterology department, quality improvement initiatives, and supervision of medical trainees.
