DescriptionDescription of Basic Functions and Responsibilities
OverviewThe Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) serves a diverse student population and emphasizes equitable education outcomes. Typical Duties, Knowledge and AbilitySpecific Responsibilities
- Meet classes and laboratories as assigned within the academic calendar.
- Develop and implement instruction for each class and laboratory period, aligned with official course outlines and District guidelines.
- For online and hybrid courses, maintain online components and provide regular student-contact as required by the teaching assignment.
- Distribute a syllabus during the first week of class detailing course description, objectives, grading, attendance, and requirements, in accordance with District guidelines.
- Provide regular, timely feedback and return graded work promptly.
- Assign final grades in alignment with District policy, administrative procedures, California Education Code, and Title 5.
- Respect student rights as specified by District policy and applicable laws.
- Submit requisitions for textbooks and materials in a timely and cost-conscious manner.
- Refer students to tutoring and related services when appropriate.
- Supervise students in off-campus activities when required by course or load.
- Provide academic assistance during scheduled office hours.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current in the discipline.
- Submit administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes, timely and accurately.
- Perform discipline-specific classroom responsibilities as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
- Schedule and communicate office hours clearly to students and division staff.
- Participate in District governance and curriculum development processes; develop new courses as needed.
- Engage in program review and annual planning; participate in hiring processes as needed.
- Attend department and division meetings; assess learning outcomes and contribute to outcomes processes.
- Engage in professional development to improve pedagogy and student success; stay current in subject matter knowledge.
- Meet flex requirements and participate in faculty evaluation processes per the collective bargaining agreement.
- Maintain official records per District policy and safety guidelines; report absences appropriately.
- Recommend instructional supplies and equipment as needed; fulfill all obligations under the current bargaining agreement.
- Discipline-specific responsibilities as assigned.

- Design and deliver courses in multiple modalities (in-person, online, hybrid).
- Collaborate in recruitment and articulation with local schools, colleges, and universities.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
- Maintain currency in the subject matter and assess student learning outcomes.
- Adopt and explore new technologies and teaching practices to benefit students and programs.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to diverse backgrounds, including disability and linguistic diversity.
- Uphold the California community college mission.
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree or higher with two years of professional experience, or an Associate degree with six years of professional experience. The experience must be directly related to the teaching assignment.
