Overview
The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) sits at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains to the north, east, and west. The area provides a wide array of outdoor amenities and activities with miles of hiking and biking trails, national parks, two lakes, and the Sacramento River. The main campus is located in the city of Redding, population 90,000.

Under administrative leadership, it is the responsibility of the full-time college instructor to teach classes and to participate in processes that will result in continuous improvement of instruction and programs, student success and completion, and advancement of the vision, mission, and values of Shasta College.
The Earth Sciences Instructional Team, part of the Department of Physical, Earth, and Planetary Sciences at Shasta College, is represented by a diverse group of disciplines, including atmospheric science, geography, geology, and marine science. The team addresses each of these disciplines by offering six Associate degree programs supported by nearly 40 courses, a third of which include a laboratory component. The inclusion of discipline-related software is an overarching program highlight, and all the disciplines emphasize field experiences.
Earth Science courses at Shasta College include:
- atmospheric science (e.g., meteorology, climatology);
- physical geography, with an emphasis on geomorphologic features, their origins, and associated hazards;
- cultural geography, with an emphasis on societal relationships to natural features and resources;
- geology (e.g., hazards and natural disasters, ancient life, Earth system science, and planetary science);
- marine science (e.g., oceanography, coastal marine science).
The successful candidate will have an educational background and teaching experience that span across these disciplines and a desire to teach a variety of courses as part of their teaching load each semester.
