Descriptionof Basic Functions and Responsibilities
The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Community College District is an inclusive organization that strives for equity and equal opportunity and serves a diverse student population. Under administrative leadership, it is the responsibility of the full-time college instructor to teach classes and participate in processes that improve instruction, student success, completion, and alignment with the district’s mission and values.
Responsibilities- Classroom Responsibilities: meet classes and laboratories as scheduled; develop and implement instruction consistent with course outlines and district guidelines; maintain online components for online/hybrid courses; provide regular student contact; distribute syllabi in the first week; provide timely feedback and return graded work; assign final grades per district policy and applicable laws; refer students to tutoring and services; supervise off-campus activities as required;
provide academic assistance during office hours; participate in professional development; submit required administrative paperwork including student learning outcomes; perform discipline-specific responsibilities as assigned. - Additional Responsibilities: schedule and communicate office hours; participate in district governance and curriculum review; contribute to program review and planning; participate in hiring processes as needed; attend department and division meetings; assess learning outcomes; engage in professional development to improve pedagogy and student success; comply with flex hours and collective bargaining requirements; maintain records and report absences; recommend instructional purchases; fulfill all obligations under the collective bargaining agreement;
perform discipline-specific duties as assigned.
The successful applicant will demonstrate broad preparation and depth of knowledge in the discipline, with the following capabilities:
- Work effectively with colleagues to support innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population;
- Work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, and goals;
- Design and deliver courses in multiple modalities (in-person, online, hybrid);
- Participate in recruitment and articulation with local schools, colleges, and universities;
- Communicate effectively in writing and orally;
- Maintain currency in the subject matter and assess student learning outcomes;
- Explore new technologies and teaching practices to benefit students and programs;
- Show sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and disabilities among staff and students;
- Be committed to the California Community College mission.
- Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree or higher with two years of professional experience OR Associate degree with six years of professional experience. The experience must be directly related to the faculty member’s teaching assignment. - Experience
Required:
Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse backgrounds of staff and students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.
