Position: (Full-time) Fire Technology Instructor (Temporary, One-Year)

Overview

Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) is located in the northern Sacramento Valley, with the main campus in Redding, California. The district serves a diverse student population of more than 11,000 students, focusing on equitable education outcomes and community enrichment through innovative programs and accelerated pathways.

Classroom Responsibilities

As a full‑time instructor you will:

  • Teach assigned classes and laboratories according to the academic calendar.
  • Develop and implement course instruction, including asynchronous and synchronous online or hybrid components.
  • Provide regular student–student and student–instructor contact.
  • Distribute a syllabus during the first week of class, outlining course description, objectives, grading, testing, attendance, and other requirements.
  • Return graded work and provide timely feedback.
  • Assign final grades in accordance with district policy, California Education Code, and Title 5.
  • Demonstrate respect for student rights and submit requisitions for textbooks and instructional materials.
  • Refer students to tutoring and related services when appropriate.
  • Supervise students in off‑campus activities when required.
  • Offer academic assistance during scheduled office hours.
  • Participate in professional development to stay current in the discipline.
  • Submit required administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Schedule and communicate office hour days and times.
  • Participate in district governance committees and curriculum review cycles.
  • Assist in program review, annual planning, and selection (hiring) processes as needed.
  • Attend department and division meetings.
  • Assess learning outcomes and contribute to outcomes processes.
  • Complete required professional development activities.
  • Meet all flex requirements and participate in the evaluation process per the faculty collective bargaining agreement.
  • Maintain official records and report absences as required.
  • Recommend purchases of instructional supplies and equipment.
  • Adhere to district property and safety policies.
  • Fulfill all obligations under the current collective bargaining agreement.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Experience

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Effective collaboration with faculty and staff in a diverse academic environment.
  • Ability to work with students of all academic and vocational backgrounds.
  • Design and delivery of courses in in‑person, online, and hybrid modalities.
  • Participation in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools and higher‑education institutions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Maintenance of subject‑matter currency and assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Use of new technologies and innovative teaching practices that benefit students.
  • Sensitivity to the diverse cultural, socioeconomic, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community‑college students.
  • Commitment to the California community‑college mission.
Education Required
  • Bachelor’s degree(s) or higher with two years of professional experience, or
    Associate degree(s) with six years of professional experience.
  • The professional experience must be directly related to the teaching assignment.
Experience Required
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and understanding of staff and students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, and students with physical or learning disabilities.
Schedule and Compensation

The position is full‑time, contracted to work 175 days per year (164 classroom days and 11 professional development days). Faculty may take up to 18 weeks off during summer and winter intersessions. The anticipated start date is the beginning of the Fall 2026 semester. Compensation is based on the 2025‑2026 Faculty Salary

Schedule:

$63,500.44 – $ per year plus a $2,000 year doctorate differential. State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) benefits apply.
