Position: Grade 1 Teacher (Full Year Long Term Substitute

Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Grade 1 Teacher for a full-year long-term substitute position at Samuel Staples Elementary. The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering a positive learning environment for young learners and will be committed to promoting academic and social growth in students. This role requires a collaborative spirit and the ability to engage students in a dynamic and supportive classroom setting.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement age‑appropriate lesson plans that align with the curriculum and educational standards.
  • Create a nurturing classroom environment that encourages student participation, curiosity, and a love for learning.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through various methods, including observations, tests, and assignments, and communicate results to parents and guardians.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators, support staff, and administration to enhance the educational experience for all students.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively, fostering a respectful and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Provide individualized support and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of all students.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and classroom activities.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with educational best practices.
  • Prepare and organize classroom materials and resources to facilitate effective learning experiences.
  • Supervise students during recess, lunch, and other school activities as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification or license for elementary education.
  • Previous experience teaching Grade 1 or similar age group preferred.
  • Strong understanding of child development and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and the school community.
  • Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable classroom environment.
  • Ability to pass background checks and comply with school district policies.
