Overview

The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) sits at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains to the north, east, and west. The area provides a wide array of outdoor amenities and activities with miles of hiking and biking trails, national parks, two lakes, and the Sacramento River. The main campus is located in the city of Redding, population 90,000.

Employment Details

Full‑time instructional faculty are contracted to work 175 days per year, including 164 days of classroom instruction and 11 days of professional growth and development. Instructors enjoy up to 18 weeks off per year during summer and winter intercessions. The Fall semester begins in late August and ends in mid‑December; the Spring semester begins in mid‑January and ends in mid‑May.

Responsibilities
  • Meet assigned classes and laboratories as outlined in the academic calendar.
  • Develop and implement instruction for each class and laboratory period, consistent with the official course outline and district guidelines.
  • For online and hybrid courses, maintain course components, including asynchronous or synchronous content delivery.
  • Provide regular student‑to‑student and student‑to‑instructor contact for online and hybrid courses.
  • Distribute a syllabus within the first week of class, communicating objectives, grading, testing, attendance, and other requirements.
  • Provide timely feedback to students and return graded work promptly.
  • Assign final grades for courses per district policy.
  • Demonstrate respect for student rights as specified in district policy and applicable laws.
  • Submit requisitions for textbooks and instructional materials in a timely manner.
  • Refer students to tutoring and related student services when appropriate.
  • Supervise students in off‑campus activities when required.
  • Provide academic assistance during office hours.
  • Participate in professional development to remain current in the assigned discipline.
  • Submit required administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes.
  • Complete discipline‑specific classroom responsibilities as assigned.
  • Schedule and maintain office hour days and times.
  • Participate in participatory governance through district committees.
  • Participate in curriculum review, development, program review, and annual planning cycles.
  • Participate in selection (hiring) processes as needed.
  • Attend and participate in department and division meetings.
  • Assess learning outcomes and participate in learning outcomes processes.
  • Engage in required professional development activities.
  • Maintain professional skills and knowledge.
  • Meet all flex and evaluative requirements per the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Keep and submit official records required by district policy.
  • Abide by district policies concerning property and safety.
  • Report absences due to illness or personal necessity to the supervising administrator.
  • Recommend purchases of instructional supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Fulfill obligations per the current collective bargaining
