Position: (Full-time) Dean of Extended Education

Overview

Shasta College, part of the Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District, seeks an experienced administrator to manage the Tehama Campus and the Extended Education division. The role supports equitable education outcomes for a diverse student body and oversees operations across the tri‑county region.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, organize, promote, coordinate, and monitor operations of extended education locations and the Interactive Television (ITV) network.
  • Evaluate, develop, and implement college policies and procedures related to division activities.
  • Oversee programs and services related to major initiatives such as the Adult Education Block Grant.
  • Coordinate, integrate, and promote courses and programs throughout the tri‑county region.
  • Develop, evaluate, and implement enrollment management planning for the extended education service area(s).
  • Serve as administrator in charge of daily operations of the Tehama Campus.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate faculty, classified staff, custodial, maintenance, and technology personnel.
  • Coordinate safety and student disciplinary matters, including first‑level student hearings.
  • Coordinate assessment, counseling, orientation, and other student service activities.
  • Develop, coordinate, and administer the budget; monitor and control expenditures; approve facility use requests.
  • Communicate and interpret the curriculum in conjunction with campus instructional departments.
  • Determine staffing needs and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Develop course schedules and maintain a list of qualified substitute instructors.
  • Recruit and assign part‑time faculty to meet course needs; evaluate part‑time faculty teaching at extended education sites.
  • Prepare and distribute information, agendas, minutes, and other documents for administrative, board, and community meetings.
  • Travel to extended education locations throughout the district.
  • Oversee enrollment practices and maintenance of applicable forms.
  • Promote cooperative relationships with community and regional agencies.
  • Direct and supervise staff; conduct performance appraisals; administer employment contracts; orient staff to district policies.
  • Assist in developing partnerships with four‑year institutions.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Knowledge of principles and practices, laws and regulations of community college academic programs.
  • Knowledge of program planning, development, and implementation.
  • Knowledge of proper budget development and implementation practices.
  • Knowledge of management and supervision principles, including planning, organizing, assigning, reviewing work, performance appraisal, discipline, employee selection and development, and affirmative action policy.
  • Ability to plan, direct, and manage activities and operations of a community college off‑campus location.
  • Ability to prepare and present effective reports, recommendations, and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
  • Ability to direct, supervise, and formally evaluate the work of others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
  • Ability to travel and make visits to off‑campus extended education locations.
Education & Experience
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent, with at least two years of formal training, internship, or leadership experience related to the assignment.
  • Supervisory experience, preferably at an educational institution.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities.
  • A valid California driver’s license and evidence of appropriate vehicle insurance.

    Schedule:

    Range 55 on the Administrative Salary Schedule.
  • Work Schedule:

    40 hours per week, 12 months per year; 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Default CalSTRS retirement.
  • Supervisor:
    Associate Superintendent or designee.
