Medical Assisting Instructor

Overview

Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) serves a diverse student population in the northern Sacramento Valley. The main campus is located in Redding, California. Full‑time Instructional Faculty will teach courses and laboratories in in‑person and/or online modalities, and participate in faculty governance, curriculum development, and student success initiatives.

• Teach assigned courses and labs, meeting the academic calendar.
• Develop and implement instructional materials consistent with the official course outline and campus guidelines.
• Maintain online course components for online/hybrid courses, including asynchronous or synchronous content delivery and regular student contact.
• Distribute syllabi during the first week of class, outlining course objectives, grading, attendance, and requirements.
• Provide timely feedback and graded work, and assign final grades per district policy and state law.
• Demonstrate respect for student rights and submit requisitions for instructional materials.
• Refer students to tutoring and related services when appropriate and supervise off‑campus activities as required.
• Offer academic assistance during scheduled office hours.
• Participate in professional development to stay current in the discipline.
• Submit required administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes.

• Schedule and communicate office hours.
• Participate in participatory governance, curriculum review, program review, and department meetings.
• Engage in faculty collective bargaining agreement duties such as faculty evaluation, skill development, and property safety.
• Report absences and recommend instructional purchases.

• Experience teaching or developing instructional materials in in‑person, online, or hybrid modalities.
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues and students in a diverse environment.
• Skill in course design, student assessment, and documentation of learning outcomes.
• Awareness of new technologies and teaching practices that enhance student learning.
• Commitment to the California community college mission and equity.

Required – Any bachelor’s degree or higher with at least two years of related professional experience, or any associate degree with six years of professional experience.

Preferred – Bachelor’s degree in health education or related health care area and two years of professional experience as a Medical Assistant or equivalent, or associate degree with six years of professional experience.

Starting Salary: $63,500.44 – $ per year (2025‑2026 Full‑Time Faculty Salary Schedule). Salary Range: $63,500.44 – $ per year. Additional $2,000 per year for a doctorate.

State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) benefits are available.

Full‑time faculty contract: 175 days per year (164 instructional days, 11 days for professional development), including up to 18 weeks off during summer and winter intersessions. Fall and Spring semesters consist of 17 weeks of instruction (~82 days).

Position anticipated to begin at the start of the Fall 2026 semester; may be taught online and/or at the Tehama Campus in Red Bluff.
