Position: (Full-time) American Sign Language Instructor

OVERVIEW

DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under administrative leadership, the full‑time college instructor will teach classes and participate in processes that continuously improve instruction and programs, student success and completion, and advance the vision, mission and values of Shasta College.

CLASSIFICATION
  • Placement on the current Faculty Salary Schedule is commensurate with previous education and experience.
  • Full‑time instructional faculty are contracted to work 175 days per year, including 164 days of classroom instruction and 11 days of professional growth and development.
  • Instructional days: approximately 82 days over 17 weeks in the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Salary (2025‑2026): $63,500.44 – $ per year.
  • Salary (2024‑2025): $63,500.44 – $ per year.
  • $2,000 per year doctorate differential.
  • Participation in the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS).
START DATE

This position is anticipated to start at the beginning of the Fall 2026 semester and may require teaching online.

SUPERVISOR

Dean of Arts, Communications, and Social Sciences or designee.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Classroom Responsibilities
  • Meet classes or laboratories as assigned within the academic calendar.
  • Develop and implement instruction for each course and lab period, consistent with official course outlines and district guidelines.
  • For online and hybrid courses, maintain course components and deliver content as required.
  • Provide regular student‑student and student‑instructor contact for online and hybrid courses.
  • Distribute a syllabus during the first week of class detailing objectives, grading, testing, attendance, and other requirements.
  • Provide timely feedback to students and return graded work promptly.
  • Assign final grades in accordance with district policy, California Education Code, and Title 5.
  • Demonstrate respect for student rights.
  • Submit requisitions for textbooks and instructional materials in a timely manner.
  • Refer students to tutoring and related services when appropriate.
  • Supervise students in off‑campus activities when required.
  • Offer academic assistance during scheduled office hours.
  • Participate in professional development to stay current in the discipline.
  • Submit required administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes.
  • Perform discipline‑specific classroom duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Schedule and maintain office hours and communicate them clearly.
  • Participate in participatory governance through committees.
  • Participate in curriculum review and develop new courses as needed.
  • Engage in program review and annual planning.
  • Participate in selection (hiring) processes when needed.
  • Attend and participate in department and division meetings.
  • Assess learning outcomes and engage in related processes.
  • Continue professional skill development.
  • Meet all flexibility requirements per the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Participate in evaluation processes as outlined in the agreement.
  • Maintain and submit official records required by district policy.
  • Abide by district property and safety policies.
  • Report absences due to illness or personal necessity.
  • Recommend purchases of instructional supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Fulfill obligations under the current collective bargaining agreement.
  • Perform discipline‑specific additional duties as assigned.
