Description of Basic Functions and Responsibilities

OVERVIEW

The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) sits at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains to the north, east, and west. The area provides a wide array of outdoor amenities and activities with miles of hiking and biking trails, national parks, two lakes, and the Sacramento River. The main campus is located in the city of Redding, population 90,000.

DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To provide quality program-level support and assistance for a diverse student population to assist them with navigating all aspects of their enrollment through the distinct services of assigned program area. Determine Student Services program eligibility in accordance with established guidelines, monitor student academic progress in collaboration with counseling faculty, and provide outreach and recruitment activities. Employees in this classification receive limited supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures and perform a variety of responsible student support functions.

This job class requires superb organizational and communication skills, with a strong emphasis on fostering/maintaining positive interactions with students, colleagues and the public.

CLASSIFICATION:

Range 35 on the current Classified Salary Schedule, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Work assignment hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This is a classified position with a default CalPERS retirement.

SUPERVISOR:

Associate Dean of Economic and Workforce Development or designee.

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability Essential Functions
  • Plans, organizes, and implements specific Student Services program activities and operations.
  • Determine student initial and ongoing eligibility for Student Services program or services; track individual student and cohort progress and adherence to program guidelines.
  • Assists with Student Services program in-take procedures. Receives, reviews, and verifies documents, records, and forms for accuracy, completeness, and determines program eligibility and extent of support in accordance with established rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides program orientation and workshops to students, both in person and virtually.
  • Meets with students to determine appropriate service to fulfill their stated needs and assists them in navigating resources to meet these needs.
  • In collaboration with counseling faculty, monitors individual student academic progress, identifies barriers to success, and refers students to other college and community support services as appropriate.
  • Assists students with understanding and completing applications and/or forms such as documentation and appeals for financial aid and academic status review.
  • Help students navigate resources that address academic, financial and personal challenges that may interfere with their academic performance.
  • Coordinates program-related financial assistance in collaboration with the Office of Financial Aid.
