Under the general direction of the Chief of the Office of Engineering Services, a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the incumbent supervises the Region Office Engineer Branch in Redding. The incumbent directs the work of Specification Engineers in the development and review of plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) for highway improvement projects and works independently on most assignments. PE registration is required.
EligibilityEligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Transportation Engineer, Caltrans exam. Applicants who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
Special Requirements- Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.
- The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) serves as documentation of each applicant’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. Please follow the instructions below; failure to include and complete the SOQ as instructed may result in the SOQ not being considered and in disqualification from the interview. Each question must be numbered and addressed in the same order as the questions below.
The SOQ must be typed, no more than two pages in length, and 12‑point Arial font. - Describe your experience with any Project Development processes that you’ve encountered, the Federal Highway Association, Stewardship Agreements, Plan Preparation Manual, Construction Contract Developments, Best Bids Standards.
- Describe your demonstrated experience working with internal and external staff, i.e., Project engineers, Traffic engineers, Maintenance engineers, Construction engineers, and local agencies. If applicable.
- Describe your ability to effectively apply logic and creativity in decision‑making processes while addressing the needs of the organization, and external stakeholders.
