Design Manager – Electrical Transmission and Distribution; Pacific NW

Role Summary

As a Design Manager in Jacobs’ Energy and Power business unit, you will deploy design and project management skills to lead technical staff in developing innovative solutions for electric transmission and distribution clients. You will collaborate across engineering disciplines, manage internal teams as well as external subconsultants and contractors, and typically work on projects involving electric substations and transmission & distribution services—both underground and overhead.

The role offers end‑to‑end lifecycle service from needs assessment and planning to startup and commissioning, requiring a broad understanding of underground and overhead electric utility infrastructure.

• Project Planning and Scheduling – develop detailed project plans, timelines, and schedules to ensure all project phases are completed on time.
• Budget Management – oversee project budgets, ensuring costs remain within financial constraints.
• Team Coordination – lead and coordinate engineering teams, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among members.
• Risk Management – identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Quality Assurance – ensure all project deliverables meet required quality standards and specifications.
• Resource Allocation – manage the allocation of resources to optimize project efficiency.
• Compliance and Safety – ensure all project activities comply with relevant regulations, standards, and safety guidelines.
• Documentation and Reporting – prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including progress reports, cost analyses, and final project reports.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Professional Engineer license within the Western Region of the US.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience as a Project Engineer, Design Manager, or Project Manager, responsible for execution of transmission and/or distribution projects.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to make decisions and pivot quickly to meet client objectives.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting project status information clearly and concisely to stakeholders.
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy in cost estimation and reporting.
• Experience working for Engineering, Design‑Build, or Construction/EPC firms.
• Knowledge of risk management and cost control techniques.

• 10+ years of demonstrated experience as a Design/Project Manager responsible for electric transmission & distribution infrastructure projects.
• Experience in undergrounding projects within an urban environment.
