About the Position
Forest Stewardship Projects Forester – join Sierra Pacific Industries’ Forestry Division to lead stewardship projects across Northern California’s National Forests, including Shasta‑Trinity, Lassen, Plumas, Tahoe, Eldorado and Stanislaus.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Forestry team, US Forest Service, and contractors to implement a landscape‑scale, cross‑boundary network of fuel break treatments.
- Oversee contract crews, ensuring adherence to best practices, desired outcomes, and cost‑effective solutions.
- Develop and execute project area preparations, including review, layout, flagging, and coordination of surveys.
- Prepare project bid prospectuses, negotiate contracts, and manage contractor development, scheduling and planning.
- Apply sound judgement to analyze and solve problems, making best‑practice decisions with minimal oversight.
- Monitor quality control guidelines and ensure compliance with contract and National Environmental Protection Act requirements.
- Provide weekly progress reports outlining changing conditions, costs, strategies, and outcomes in alignment with project timelines.
- Interact professionally with Forestry team members, private contractors, US Forest Service representatives, and the public.
- Collaborate to support Company goals and objectives.
- Work independently and safely in mountainous terrain and all‑weather conditions.
- Travel frequently to project sites with occasional overnight stays.
- Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or substantially equivalent experience (required).
- At least 3 years of related experience in forest fuels reduction, contractor supervision, project administration, and forestry work.
- Strong understanding of harvesting and fuels reduction operations.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self‑starter with a strong work ethic and safety focus.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to navigate remote areas.
