We are seeking enthusiastic, conservation-minded people to commit to 11 months of service to protect Sierra Nevada natural resources and sustainable communities. During the year, SNAP members will gain skills and technical training, mentor with outstanding environmental leaders, and help to conserve some of our most treasured landscapes. SNAP Ameri Corps members are passionate and committed to the mission of the Sierra Nevada Alliance, SNAP and Ameri Corps.

Member’s full-time commitment to serve at a nonprofit organization or public agency in the Sierra Nevada.

Shasta Land Trust (SLT) is a regionally respected nonprofit based in Redding, CA, dedicated to conserving the beauty, character, and diversity of Northern California’s most significant lands. Founded over 27 years ago through a grassroots effort to protect a single ranch, SLT has since grown into a conservation leader, permanently protecting over 61,000 acres of vital landscapes, including watersheds, forests, working lands, wildlife habitat, riparian corridors, and open space.

Using conservation easements, SLT partners with landowners to limit development while supporting continued private ownership and land use and assumes long-term responsibility for stewardship. Alongside land protection, SLT fosters conservation awareness through public outreach and education. As development pressures grow, SLT is working to conserve an additional 20,000 acres of high-priority land over the next three years by expanding its capacity for land protection, stewardship, and community engagement.

SLT is dedicated to protecting Northern California’s most important landscapes by achieving lasting conservation results. SLT’s key strategic goals include conserving 20,000 acres of high-priority land within the next three years, expanding habitat connectivity, preserving sensitive ecosystems and biodiversity, aligning with regional conservation initiatives, strengthening partnerships, and improving stewardship efficiency and effectiveness. The Land Conservation Program Assistant (Member) plays a vital role in increasing SLT’s capacity to meet these goals by supporting the implementation of conservation projects, stewardship of protected lands, and expanding engagement with landowners and local communities.

This role involves assisting with stewardship activities, outreach, landowner relations, and systems operations that directly contribute to safeguarding natural resources, such as watersheds and forests, which sustain biodiversity, water quality, and landscape resilience across the region. This position offers valuable hands-on experience and a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the long-term preservation of Northern California’s treasured lands for future generations.

This position offers hands-on experience in land conservation, with the Member contributing to both field and office tasks in support of conservation easements and land protection projects. Responsibilities include assisting with site visits, collecting and managing field data, and helping prepare reports. The Member will also organize internal records, improve project systems, and utilize tools such as Microsoft Word and Excel, ArcGIS, Landscape, Google Earth, satellite imagery, and drone footage to document property conditions, support monitoring efforts, and inform land management decisions.
