Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position in a Level II trauma acute care setting, requiring a current CA RN license and advanced certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Family Birthing Center (Labor & Delivery) within an acute care hospital

• The unit consists of 12 L&D beds, 19 postpartum beds, 2 ORs, and 1 PACU, with a Level III NICU on site

• Care for low and high risk deliveries, excluding neonates with known surgical needs

• Required to work 12-hour night shifts, with scheduling including three weekend shifts within a four-week schedule

• Follows CA mandated nurse to patient ratios, ranging from 1:4 to 1:1

• Float to Pediatrics or NICU feeders and growers may be required if experienced

• Uses Cerner EMR and Fetal Link for surveillance

• OB Techs provide support for scrub and desk coverage

• Laborist physician, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy available 24/7 on site

• Hospital-provided scrubs

• Participate in clinical rotations for holidays as part of the perm staff rotation

• Orientation includes 2 or 3 shifts depending on circulating ability

• Testing on sterile techniques is required during orientation

• Peak patient census typically occurs in July and October

• Team structure includes a clinical supervisor, staff team lead, and nurse manager on weekdays

• No IV team; bedside nurses perform IV starts

• First to float policy applies to travelers, with floating within scope to Pediatrics or NICU as needed

• No nurse aides on the unit; OB techs provide ancillary support

Requirements

• Active and current CA RN license required at time of consideration

• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience required

• Current BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Advanced AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certifications required

• COVID vaccination is required

• Must pass a proctored Dysrhythmia (ECG) test on site on day one (Pass/Fail)

• Ability to use Cerner EMR and Fetal Link surveillance systems

• Must provide two professional references, including one from a supervisor within last 12 months

• Copy of driver's license is required for consideration

• Cannot be a former direct employee (FT, PT, PRN) of any affiliated health system within the past 12 months
