Description:

Telemetry, Labor and Delivery, Emergency, and Critical Care RNs will take a proctored Dysrhythmia Test onsite, day one. The unit consists of 19 postpartum beds, 12 labor and delivery beds, 2 operating rooms, and 1 post-anesthesia care unit. Emergency Medical Records systems include Cerner and Fetal Link for surveillance. Charge Nurse roles are filled by a Clinical Supervisor most days and a staff Team Lead.

Nurse Manager operates Monday through Friday. There are no Nurse Aides; OB techs scrub and cover the desk. The weekend requirement includes 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule, including Saturday and Sunday day shifts or Friday and Saturday night shifts. Holiday scheduling is integrated with the permanent staff rotation. The hospital provides scrub color. Telemetry is not applicable;
Phillips is used for fetal heart monitoring systems. There are no ventilators available. An in-house laborist is present 24/7. Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy services are available 24/7. Shifts run from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM for both days and nights. Staff may float to pediatrics, handling the same patients as in postpartum, and to NICU only for feeders and growers if they have prior experience.

Floor-specific orientation lasts 3 shifts if staff can circulate; otherwise, it is 2 shifts. Circulating is not required, as there is designated staff for this role. The department sees both low and high-risk deliveries and has a Level III NICU. Common diagnoses include transfers out for babies with known congenital defects needing immediate surgery. Peak times for admissions are observed in July and October.

The hospital retains the right to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting is done through Cerner. This is an acute care setting with a trauma level 2 designation. Shifts are managed with a focus on staffing and patient care.
