Public Health Nurse I: $6,524 – $8,327 approximate monthly ($37.64 – $48.04 approximate hourly).
Public Health Nurse II: $7,553 – $9,640 approximate monthly ($43.57 – $55.61 approximate hourly).
This position is covered by the United Public Employees of California – Professional bargaining unit.

Public Health Nurse I:
Under close supervision, performs medical health history interviews, provides health information, reviews medical records, plans health care, and attends home visits. Works with a team of child welfare social workers to protect and support youth in foster care.

Public Health Nurse II
:
Performs all responsibilities of Public Health Nurse I with general supervision and assumes greater independence.

• Public Health Nurse I:
  Entry level for newly certificated or out‑of‑practice Registered Nurses.
• Public Health Nurse II
  :
  Fully qualified professional with demonstrated competence and independence.

Committed to public service, collaborative, effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills. Experience with parents, foster families, and pediatric populations is preferred. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. Demonstrates respect, adaptability, and a professional attitude.

• Elicit health and social histories of individuals and families.
• Promote communicable disease prevention education.
• Conduct physical assessments and recognize abnormal findings.
• Assist in changing health behavior through counseling.
• Provide case management based on comprehensive assessment.
• Identify cultural patterns influencing community health.
• Teach and counsel on specific diseases or health conditions.
• Investigate and monitor cases of communicable disease; obtain specimens and interpret results.
• Compile records, reports, and statistical information for appraisal and planning.
• Attend required meetings and trainings.

• Plan, organize, and provide public health nursing services including assessment and intervention.
• Assess exposure to communicable disease and refer appropriately.
• Provide tailored preventive services to targeted populations.
• Teach disease prevention and health promotion.
• Participate in epidemiological investigations for control.
• Develop community projects and partnerships.
• Evaluate health of special population groups.
• Maintain accurate records and reports.
• Use STD training to perform examinations as authorized.
• Prioritize tasks and manage workload.
• Assume delegated responsibility and supervise staff, interns or volunteers if required.

• Skilled nursing in public health, epidemiology, health education, case management, and community resource utilization.
• Understanding of ordinances, policies, and regulatory guidelines governing public health services.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment, manage time, adapt to various conditions, and communicate effectively.
• Clinical skills: venipuncture, injections, dispensing medications.
• Maintain records, establish professional relationships, and promote departmental mission.

• Extensive knowledge of public health nursing, communicable and chronic disease control, and community mobilization.
• Ability to assess comprehensive health needs, solve complex problems, and manage resources.
• Advocate for disadvantaged populations and mentor staff.
• Apply epidemiology and primary prevention principles.
