Unit Notes Telemetry, L/D, Emergency and Critical Care RN's will take a proctored Dysrhythmia Test onsite, day one. This is a PASS/FAIL test! MUST have experience with ICP monitoring and ventrics HOLIDAY RTO WILL BE CONSIDERED, HOWEVER IT CANNOT BE GUARANTEED
Unit ICU - ICU/Trauma ICU # Beds: 30 beds Nurse:
Patient Ratios: 1 to 1-2, 90% of the time will be 1 to 2 ratio
Required Certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) BLS & ACLS are required. PALS is preferred. If traveler would stay longer than 6 months, PALS would be required after 6 months
Common diagnoses/Types of patients:
Trauma - travelers must have this experience, neuro-strokes, head injuries, ventriculostomies, ICP monitoring - candidates MUST have experience with ICP monitoring and ventrics if they do not have this experience then they MUST have experience with post-TPA pts
Experience or 'Must have' skills:
Candidates must have 2-3 yrs in specialty. Previous travel experience preferred. Absolutely DO NOT send over candidates who have 2 years or less experience and minimal travel experience UNLESS they have excellent past experiences at larger, fast-paced facilities.
Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes, vasopressors, sedation
Common titratable &/or set rate drips: vasopressors, sedation
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge nurse 24/7, they do not take pt assignment. House supervisor 24/7
Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios 1 Unit Tech for all 30 beds (provides more secretary work then bedside work)
Hospitalist or Intensivist in house Intensivist 24/7 RT in ICU 24/7 Assigned to ICU (not only department assigned to) RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc) Yes - Hamilton vents
Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? Client, Unit Secretary will run strips. RN must interpret strips
Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) Self scheduling not finalized until manager can review, 12 hr shifts, 6:45-7:15, schedules made out about 6 weeks in advance. Travelers are the first to be moved, if needed. Block scheduling:
No Weekend Requirements:
Every other weekend Holiday Requirements: will be addressed during that time
Is there a call or standby requirement? Not for traveler Floating Requirements:
Any of the PCU and CICU, tele or medsurg units. In CICU they will have an ICU patient not a open heart
Scrub Color/Dress Code:
Navy
Unit/Department specific orientation: 1 day on unit Will provide more if needed
Additional Notes: MUST know ahead of time they will work very hard on this unit, must be open to asking questions or asking for help if needed, unit is fast-paced. MUST be able to get along well with others, hospital has a very robust interventional radiology program, traveler friendly.
