Employment and Training Worker I / II – Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency
Location: Shasta County – Redding, Anderson, Shasta Lake, Burney, Enterprise
Salary Range: Worker I – $3,614 – $4,613 monthly*;
Worker II – $4,063 – $5,186 monthly*
Hourly: Worker I – $20.85 – $26.61 per hour*;
Worker II – $23.44 – $29.92 per hour*
* Approximate monthly or hourly rates. Salary may increase under the County bargaining agreement.
About the DepartmentThe Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) is organized into four branches:
Behavioral Health & Social Services, Public Health, Economic Mobility, and Administration Services. The Economic Mobility Branch provides employment preparation, eligibility determination for public benefits, and referrals to community resources.
Provides employability services to eligible applicants of the CalWORKs and Cal Fresh employment and training programs. Uses program regulations, assesses employment potential, identifies barriers, and refers participants to services. Maintains client records in an automated system and generates reports. May determine eligibility for public assistance through interactive interviewing.
Responsibilities- Conduct interviews and evaluate employability of program participants.
- Interpret learning‑disability evaluations and assess employment and education history.
- Identify employment‑related barriers and develop strategies to overcome them.
- Provide career guidance, employment counseling, and labor market information.
- Refer clients to educational, training, and supportive services as appropriate.
- Conduct orientation workshops for new and returning participants.
- Enter and retrieve data in an automated system and manage caseloads.
- Compile and maintain reports, logs, and records in compliance with regulations.
- Work with clients to monitor progress, document compliance, and enforce sanctions when necessary.
- Perform clerical duties, schedule assignments, and meet deadlines.
- Establish effective working relationships with clients and internal staff.
- One year of full‑time experience in eligibility determination for loans, benefits, or public services.
- OR Six months of such experience plus 15 semester or 22 quarter college units in related areas.
- OR Eighteen months of case management experience plus 15 semester or 22 quarter units.
- OR Two years of full‑time experience in applicable services.
- OR Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science, education, business, or related field plus 15 semester or 22 quarter units and one year of experience in vocational guidance or placement services.
- One year of full‑time experience comparable to Worker I with Shasta County.
- OR One year of eligibility determination experience.
- OR Thirty months of vocational guidance or placement experience plus 15 semester or 22 quarter units.
- OR Three years of vocational guidance or placement experience.
- OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 15 semester or 22 quarter units and one year of experience in vocational guidance or placement services.
- Note:
Two or more years as a caseworker in programs with a work component may satisfy experience requirements.
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
Regularly required to sit, use hands, talk, and hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or lift up to 10 pounds. Work may involve exposure to outdoor weather. Noise level is generally moderate.
Other Considerations- Direct paycheck deposit to bank account required.
- Background investigation, including criminal history and drug testing, may be required.
- Medical examination and drug/alcohol testing may be conditioned on the offer of employment.
