September 18, 2026, at 12:00 PM. Salary information Assistant Social Worker: $23.21 - $29.63 approximate hourly. Social Worker: $26.88 - $34.30 approximate hourly. Extra help positions are hourly employees that may work up to 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Benefits are not included. The salary range consists of six (6) salary steps, with approximately 5% between each step.

Newly hired employees are appointed at Step A of the assigned salary range.

The Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) partners with the community to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of Shasta County residents. HHSA is organized into four branches:
Behavioral Health & Social Services, Public Health, Economic Mobility, and a centralized Administration Services. HHSA promotes optimal health for all. The frail, the abused, the mentally ill, and those without resources look to HHSA for services and resources to meet their basic needs, and to protect their health and safety.

Under direction of the Social Worker Supervisor, the Extra Help Assistant Social Worker/Social Worker will complete In Home Supportive Services assessments and re-evaluations for eligible recipients. The Assistant Social Worker/Social Worker will conduct in-home assessments and reassessments to determine client eligibility and level of need for IHSS services. They will interview clients, family members, and caregivers to gather information related to functional abilities and living conditions.

They will utilize state-mandated assessment tools (e.g., SOC 295, Functional Index Rankings) and develop individualized service plans and authorize appropriate hours of care. They will monitor and reassess client conditions to ensure ongoing eligibility and adequacy of services; collaborate with healthcare providers, community organizations, and other service agencies; maintain accurate case records in state and county databases (e.g., CMIPS); and respond to reports of suspected abuse or neglect, making referrals to Adult Protective Services as appropriate.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of case management experience, working with elders 60 and older and dependent adults aged 18-59 with disabilities of a physical, medical, cognitive, intellectual, or emotional nature; possess good communication skills and a compassionate attitude; maintain accurate and timely documentation and work well with a busy and often unpredictable caseload. Experience with interviewing, completing assessments and developing services plans are critical skills for this position.

The successful candidate will work within a community setting and effectively use appropriate resources and services. The candidate will also be required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency staff, clients, and community organizations.
