JOB SUMMARY

Daily transportation of children and parent volunteers. Responsible for the daily smooth and safe operation of the bus and bus route, with a major emphasis on safety.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
Must have a current Class B, California Driver’s License with passenger endorsement and related clear DMV printout, current T‑01, 02, DL‑51 (medical). Must have a Special Driver’s certificate (school bus).
Minimum of 3 years driving a bus with an excellent safety record.
CPR and First Aid certification renewed bi‑annually.
Must pass a physical examination, including tuberculosis screening, on initial hire and annually thereafter.
Must be fingerprinted and pass a background check.
Indian preference.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Maintain proper bus driver license and certification.

Maintain transportation records as assigned.

Ensure the safe transportation of each child, including safety at drop‑off and pick‑up sites, and inform authorities of any unsafe conditions.

Demonstrate genuine care and concern for the children under your care.

Ensure the safety of children at all times.

Cultivate and maintain a positive professional working relationship with parents, other family members and/or child‑care givers; encourage and facilitate regular communication.

Provide parent education of transportation rules and the need for such rules, and work to obtain parent cooperation.

Participate in Parent Meetings, Events, Staff Development Days, Kid’s Counts, Policy Council meetings, field trips, etc.

Maintain confidentiality in accordance with agency policy and legal requirements.

Understand and implement all safety rules, emergency procedures and established policies.

Identify and report suspected child abuse to the proper authorities following established guidelines.

Model positive and nurturing interactions with children, parents and staff, as outlined by NAEYC Developmentally Appropriate Practices.

Follow the Code of Ethical Conduct established by NAEYC in interactions with staff, children, parents and others in the community.

Recognize the significance of Native American culture and Wintu/Pit River/Yana culture in particular; seek out community resources or research Native American reference books to include appropriate values and activities in the bus route.

Attend regular staff meetings and cooperate in planning, developing and implementing program changes or modifications; share information pertinent to each child’s development and program operations.

Maintain buses, including daily safety checks and cleanliness.
