Hours:
Monday-Friday, 8 hours per day; 181-day school year. The hours will be 7-3 and include riding a bus with a student to another location daily.
Must have two years of college credit; OR Associates Degree or higher; OR must provide evidence of having passed the State Board of Education adopted paraprofessional assessment which assesses content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing and an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of those topics. (In Connecticut, the Para Pro Examination is the recognized assessment.) Previous experience working with adolescents in a school setting a plus Must be flexible, creative, have a good sense of humor, and demonstrate strong organizational skills Must be highly motivated and self-directed
ResponsibilitiesFacilitates program participation for identified student(s) and supports special education teams, regular classroom programs and school as a whole. Attends all activities with student(s) as assigned, including field trips, assemblies and other portions of the school program. Encourages, cues, monitors and intervenes as necessary to establish and maintain appropriate student interaction in the classroom. Implements behavior support programs under the supervision of the School Psychologist and BCBA Adapts materials under the supervision of instructional staff.
Provides individual support and enrichment activities as needed under the direction of a teacher. Facilitates objectives and strategies introduced by special education and related services staff into content-area classroom. Serves as liaison between general education teachers and the special education Case Managers, reporting progress or concerns from the general education classroom. Meets with regular classroom teachers and special education teacher on a regularly scheduled basis to coordinate efforts and program objectives.
Supervise independent or small group work, homework organization and other academic tasks as requested by the special education teacher. Participates in in-service workshops and on-going training regarding student's needs. Maintains current working knowledge of students' IEP Encourages independence in students as appropriate.
