Mechanical Design Engineer – Axle Systems
Design and develop heavy-duty truck axle components and systems from concept through production release, supporting validation, testing, and continuous product improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Design and modify axle components and assemblies using Siemens NX (3D modeling and 2D drawings).
- Create and maintain engineering drawings, BOMs, and design documentation within PLM/PDM systems.
- Develop and maintain DVP&R documentation in collaboration with validation and test engineering teams.
- Support prototype builds, testing, root cause analysis, and implementation of design improvements.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, purchasing, and global teams to deliver successful product designs.
- Apply engineering methodologies including DFMEA, FEA, and DOE to support product performance and reliability.
- Participate in technical reviews and represent the design team as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in heavy-duty truck axle design and development.
- Proficiency with Siemens NX for 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation.
- Experience with PLM/PDM systems and engineering change management.
- Knowledge of DVP&R, DFMEA, and basic FEA principles.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work hands-on with physical components during prototype and testing activities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Experience with axle systems, driveline components, differentials, or related vehicle systems.
- Familiarity with prototype validation, durability testing, and root cause analysis.
- Experience working in cross-functional and global engineering environments.
This is a permanent position based out of Redford, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $42.00/hr.
