Job Description

Workshop Technician

Location:

Edenbridge/Redhill, UK

Provide essential technical support, maintenance, and operational readiness for workshop facilities, equipment, and tools, ensuring a safe and efficient environment for users.

Key Responsibilities
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    Perform routine checks, repairs, and preventative maintenance (PPM) on machinery and tools; arrange for external repairs when needed.
  • Technical Support:
    Assist and advise users on equipment use, design principles, material selection, and safe practices, offering one-on-one or group guidance.
  • Workshop Operations:
    Prepare and set up equipment for tests, manage tool maintenance systems, maintain cleanliness, and ensure high standards of workshop practice.
  • Health & Safety:
    Enforce safety rules, report hazards, maintain risk assessments, and ensure compliance.
  • Stock Management:
    Monitor and maintain levels of consumables, materials, and components, liaising with management for purchasing.
  • Fabrication:
    Manufacture components, pipe assemblies and test pieces as required for projects or research. Use of workshop tools such as Tig welder, band saw, pneumatic pressure testers and other hand tools.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience:

    Hands‑on experience with mechanical processes, workshop tools, and machinery.
  • Technical:
    Proficiency with hand and machine tools; ability to read instructions/diagrams; potential for specialized areas (e.g., pressure tests, electrical installations and welding).
  • Safety:
    Strong understanding and adherence to Health & Safety regulations.
  • Interpersonal:
    Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Organizational:
    Ability to manage stock, logs, and prioritize tasks.
  • Education:

    Relevant vocational qualifications (e.g., in engineering) and GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English required.
