Join our library team and help create a welcoming, accessible experience for everyone who walks through our doors. From connecting patrons with the resources, they need to keeping collections organized and supporting programs and events, you’ll play an important role in helping our library serve the community. Under supervision, performs a variety of customer service and clerical tasks to support library operations. Exercises no supervision.
- Sorts books, publications, and other items according to established procedures and returns them to shelves or designated areas;
- Performs routine circulation tasks required to serve the public including checking the status of patron accounts, checking in and out library materials;
- Assists patrons with material searches and the use of library equipment;
- Performs clerical activities such as filing, typing, and data entry;
- Assists in setting up rooms for programs, meetings, and special events; and
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Basic library operating principles, including confidentiality of customer information;
- Basic record keeping principles and procedures;
- Principles and practices of customer services;
- Modern office practices, methods and computer equipment; and
- English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
Ability to:
- Learn to perform a variety of library clerical duties;
- Learn, interpret, and apply library rules and regulations;
- Ability to become familiar with technical library services and learn online bibliographic systems;
- Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and specialized library services software applications programs;
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
- Interact effectively and sensitively with individuals from diverse backgrounds; and
- Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Possession of a High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- No required experience.
Essential functions require the following physical skills and work environment:
- Ability to work in a standard library environment;
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, carry items up and down staircases, push and lift up to 40 pounds; and
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
