Overview

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Residence Life, Housing and Student Wellbeing, the Residential Experience Coordinator is responsible for direct oversight of the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies residential community. The role provides leadership for the expansion of living‑learning communities within the University of Redlands’ overall Residential Experience program. This is a 12‑month full‑time live‑in position in a rent‑free apartment.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a vibrant and holistic living/learning environment within the Johnston residential community that supports student success, residential experience, and residential education.
  • Facilitate student integration and acclimation to university and housing experiences.
  • Secure Johnston student budget at the beginning of the academic year and help students become good stewards of their budget in alignment with policies and procedures.
  • Participate and help coordinate the weekly Johnston Community Meeting, maintain an archive of notes, and keep a record of student expenditures.
  • Provide support for event and programmatic planning, including space and technological needs.
  • Mentor and develop Johnston student leaders and residents to empower, cultivate creativity, and engage them as changemakers.
  • Organize and facilitate Johnston Community retreat in collaboration with the Johnston Director.
  • Lead and conduct training on Johnston Community and University events with alcohol policy in collaboration with Dean of Students, Belonging Office, Campus Life Office, and Public Safety.
  • Assist with Johnston’s supplementary New Student Orientation, including recruitment of student leaders, in collaboration with the University New Student Orientation Staff and Campus Life.
  • Foster diversity, inclusion, and belonging within the community.
  • Help students maintain a strong co‑curricular Residential Experience program and support equity and access within the community at large.
  • Advise and counsel students regarding personal, mental health, and academic wellness; refer students to appropriate resources.
  • Ensure the Residential Experience program aligns with institutional priorities while honoring Johnston’s unique self‑governance and consensus practices.
  • Collaborate with housing professionals to discuss and address community issues.
  • Maintain a visible presence and serve as a residential community standards educator for conduct‑related initiatives.
  • Oversee operations related to the Student Food Pantry with the Assistant Dean of Community Standards and Wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with faculty and stakeholders to implement programs and initiatives connected to the Johnston living‑learning community.
  • Represent the department on university and divisional committees and provide collaborative support for events and programs.
  • Expand Johnston community collaboration with other residential communities, student services, academic affairs, and signature programs.
  • Establish and oversee a schedule for embedded care and student skill development support in partnership with campus partners such as Counseling, Career Development, Student Success Center, and Wellbeing.
  • Participate in student affairs and institutional meetings and support division performance indicators to advance student success and retention outcomes.
  • Oversee recruitment, selection, and training of Community Assistants, including ongoing coaching, mentorship, and competency development.
  • Co‑facilitate weekly training for Community Assistants, address concerns, plan events, and support overall retention and success.
  • Hold weekly one‑on‑one meetings with Community Assistants and foster communication and collaboration within the team.
