Position: Administrative, Exempt (12 months), Full-time (40 Hours)

Salary Range: $70,304-$70,304

Hiring Range: Near or at the minimum of the classification, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

Introductory Period: Twelve (12) Months

The Johnston Center for Integrative Studies is one of the oldest academic living‑learning communities in the country and a signature program at the University of Redlands. Students live and learn together in the Johnston dorm, where there are classrooms, creative spaces, a meditation room, a commuter lounge, and a music room. As students in an intentional, consensus‑based community, they use their community budget to bring in speakers, host live music and other events, and support community and academic projects.

Central to Johnston is self‑governance, which empowers students to make decisions about how best to live and learn together. Johnston also uses a restorative justice approach to conduct.

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Residence Life, Housing and Student Wellbeing, the Residential Experience Coordinator has direct oversight of the Johnston Center’s residential community and provides leadership for the expansion of living‑learning communities across the University.

Duties and Responsibilities Community Development and Engagement
  • Create and maintain a vibrant living/learning environment that supports student success, residential experience and education.
  • Facilitate student integration and acclimation to the university and housing experiences.
  • Help students learn to steward their community budget in alignment with university policies.
  • Co‑coordinate weekly community meetings, maintain an archive of notes, and track student expenditures.
  • Provide support for event and program planning, including space and technology needs.
  • Mentor and develop student leaders, cultivating creativity and engagement as changemakers.
  • Organize community retreats and conduct training on community and university events in collaboration with relevant offices.
  • Assist with the supplemental New Student Orientation and recruit student leaders.
  • Foster diversity, inclusion and belonging within the community.
  • Advise students on personal, mental health and academic wellness and refer to resources.
  • Ensure programs align with department, division and institutional priorities while honoring the unique living‑learning practices of Johnston.
  • Collaborate with housing professionals to address community issues.
  • Maintain a visible presence and serve as a standards educator for residential conduct initiatives.
  • Oversee the Student Food Pantry in partnership with relevant faculty.
  • Partner with faculty and stakeholders to implement related programs and initiatives.
  • Represent the department on committees and work groups and support institutional events.
  • Expand collaboration with other residential communities and campus resources.
  • Oversee embedded care and student development support in partnership with campus partners.
  • Provide support for institutional signature events and program initiatives.
  • Participate in student affairs meetings, professional development, and support key performance indicators.
Development, Training and Supervision of Student Leaders
  • Oversee the leadership competencies and development of a diverse team of Community Assistants.
  • Assist in recruitment, selection and training of Community Assistants.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship and competency development for Community Assistants.
  • Co‑facilitate weekly training sessions and support retention and success.
  • Hold weekly one‑on‑one meetings with Community Assistants.
  • Facilitate study halls, academic support initiatives and collateral assignments with Community Assistants.
  • Supervise the Johnston Community Intern work‑study position.
