Associate Dean of Residence Life, Housing & Student Wellbeing

The Associate Dean of Residence Life and Housing serves as the chief student housing officer providing leadership and visionary strategic planning. The inspirational leader ensures the department supports both University needs, academic mission, core values, and holistic student success and development within a thriving and dynamic living-learning residential program experience as well as provides leadership, direction and supervision to residential life, housing, inclusive of student Undergraduate, Greek Life, and Graduate and Family Housing.

The Associate Dean will also partner with Johnston Center for Integrative Studies and Woodbury Residence Life to ensure operational guidance, support, and systemwide integration.

The thought partner is committed to inclusive excellence and builds collaborative partnerships with academic and non-academic departments to develop high quality and innovative residential student-focused co-curriculum and programs to reflect national best practices in residential education programs within liberal arts environments, anchoring student career and life skill development outcomes, and high impact practices. This includes partnerships with academic affairs via expansion of faculty and student engagement opportunities, and initiatives that support student success, wellbeing, development, retention, and engagement.

The Associate Dean will provide supervisory oversight for professional staff members, graduate assistants, undergraduate student employees, undergraduate student leaders, along with staff training and development in support of the University's educational objectives. This is a 12-month full-time position with the opportunity to live-on in a rent-free apartment.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Housing and Residence Life:

  • Oversee Residence Life and Housing, including staffing and supervision, departmental budget management and oversight (including gift funding), marketing and program development, contract management, residential facilities, housing operations, policy development and implementation, relationship cultivation (internal and external partnerships), technology and assessment.
  • Provide systemwide oversight, alignment, direction, and training for use of housing software. Leads related cross-campus departmental partnerships.
  • Develop and implement a robust residential education co-curriculum program model with a focus on community belonging, meaningful student living-learning residential community experience, inclusive excellence, class-based Bulldog Pathways initiatives and programs integration, and skill development through high impact practices supporting student success in collaboration with campus partners.
  • Enhance resident assistant high impact student leadership experience, inclusive of an academic course, integrating experiential learning and career development.
  • Enhance residential student engagement through development of Residential Hall Association and support establishment of peer-based educational residential student conduct board.
  • Expand partnership with Student Campus Life and Office of Inclusion and Community to bolster student engagement and community connection, including late-night and weekend programming (e.g. Hunsaker After Dark), and Greek Life residential student experience.

Supervision and Training:

  • Provide supervision and training for professional, paraprofessional, graduate assistants, undergraduate student employees, undergraduate student leaders, and formulate individual performance and professional development goals aligned with the department's mission and strategic plan. Provides dotted line supervision to Woodbury Residence Life Coordinator.
  • Meets regularly with direct reports to assess progress towards goals, track and evaluate residential student retention and outcomes, key performance indicators, discuss professional growth and development, provide support and direction, promote teamwork and individual accountability, and acknowledge performance milestones and achievements.
  • Provide training and coaching support to departmental staff in programming, emergency preparedness and response (including, but not limited to, Title IX related incidents), residential education and co-curriculum, leadership development, safety, student crisis intervention, and risk management.

Administrative:

  • Coordinate all on-call duty schedules and training regarding duties and responsibilities for residential life staff and student leaders. Perform on-call duty coverage on a rotating basis and respond to student crises and campus emergencies when necessary. Conduct annual review of on-call procedures and training.
  • Manage referrals and student issues related to distress/crisis interventions and policy violations, following internal protocols and procedures.
