Position: Extensive Support Needs Teacher (2026/27 School Year)
Extensive Support Needs Teacher
The Extensive Support Needs Teacher provides instruction at the elementary, middle, high school and/or adult transition level to students who require remedial and specialized assistance in pre-academic, academic, social emotional, behavioral, adaptive behavior, daily living, pre-vocational, college and career skill areas; and plans, develops, organizes and implements comprehensive individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with a variety of disabilities. School staff will rely on the Extensive Support Needs Teacher to provide consultation and educational services within the area of special education.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
Completes thorough initial evaluations, additional assessments, and reevaluations in alignment with state and federal guidelines as well as department guidelines, and develops legally compliant IEPs and assessment reportsUses comprehensive assessment results in developing an appropriate IEP to accommodate the wide variety of individual needs of each studentProvides appropriate instruction both individually and in small groups as well as other special education supports to students whose needs have been identified in an IEPUtilizes functional skills curriculum and/or core curriculum with modifications to develop lesson plans to instruct/remediate identified learning deficits and make progress toward agreed upon goalsCreates, develops, and provides student specific materials when neededProvides consultation to parents regarding the utilization of curriculum and implementation of instructional strategiesAdministers school-approved curriculum benchmark/progress monitoring assessmentsDevelops, schedules, leads, and participates in IEP meetingsConsults with various school team members, parents, outside service providers regarding student assessments, specialized instruction, accommodations and modifications, and behavior management techniquesCoordinates IEP services as neededMaintains records and reports, and completes frequent progress monitoring that are required by the school, state and/or federal regulations.Develops positive relationships and rapport with all staff membersCommunicates effectively and works collaboratively with all other school personnel and parents while maintaining confidentiality at all timesParticipates in staff and program developmentPlans and coordinates the work of assigned paraprofessionals as well as provides training in order for the paraprofessionals to work effectively with studentsProvides services to students in public locations and/or in-homeCoordinates, schedules, and proctors assessment during testing periodsOther duties include:
Responds to all school related communication within 24 business hoursDocuments and refers to the school's management all formal disciplinary actions involving students; supporting management with addressing and resolving complaints from students and parents in a timely manner; ensuring compliance with the provisions of California Penal Code Section 11166 (Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act)Performs other duties as assignedQualifications guide:
Education & Experience:
A valid, current, and appropriate California state Extensive Support Needs Education Specialist credential for teaching staff. A copy of teaching credential to be provided and kept currentTwo years of successful teaching experience in special education preferredOther qualifications:
State and federal background clearance (Live Scan) to work with students (Ed. Code 44237)Proof of a clear TB test or completed tuberculosis risk assessment questionnaire and certificate of completion by a health care professional dated within the last 60 days (Ed. Code 49406 and AB 1667) upon employment and thereafter updated every four yearsHold and maintain a valid California Driver's License; proof of automobile insurance; and full time use of a dependable automobile that is insured pursuant to California regulationsKnowledge:
Computer and technology literacy:
Operate office equipment including a calculator, copier, computer, and assigned software.Google docs, Google spreadsheets, and other online collaboration tools to send and receive informationBasic arithmetic calculationsStrong content and subject-matter knowledgeSkills:
Conflict resolutionRecord-keeping techniquesMethods of collecting and organizing data and informationProficiency in various word processing programs, Special Education Information System (SEIS) and experience using them in a professional capacityAbilities:
