About the Role

Career & Professional Development (OCPD) seeks a graduate student to support student career development. Reporting to the OCPD’s Associate Director, the Graduate Assistant will assist with internship & job search, resume and cover letter review, employer connections, Linked In creation, interview preparation, graduate school application process, and general professional development.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support OCPD in promoting career services through campus events, tabling, student organization presentations, and classroom presentations.
  • Serve as front‑facing office support, welcome visitors, and handle main office phone and email communications.
  • Facilitate individual and group career advising sessions via scheduled appointments and OCPD Drop‑In Hours.
  • Provide advice and tools to help students & alumni achieve career goals, including graduate/professional school attendance or full‑time work.
    • Advising topics include resume/CV & cover letter reviews, career exploration, mock interviews, part‑time & full‑time job searching, grad school application preparation & personal statement review, and campus involvement related to career goals.
  • Familiarize with the Handshake platform and complete daily tasks (student & alumni accounts, appointment system, job & internship board, events & fairs, resume uploads, employer database).
    • Research and create content for the OCPD website.
    • Market and advertise campus or external career opportunities as approved by staff.
    • Create and edit content for presentations on career & professional development topics.
    • Plan workshop activities to facilitate learning of OCPD tools, services, and career advice.
    • Support the Director on general office initiatives and projects as needed.
    • Collaborate with Sr. Associate Director on career resources, platform usage, department data, and marketing efforts.
    • Support the Assistant Director on internship initiatives and Career Closet programming.
    • Work closely with the Associate Director to execute employer engagement strategies, workshops, and campus engagement.
      • Employer engagement includes maintaining an employer database, event communications, and researching local employers.
    • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Current or incoming graduate student in a master’s program during the 2026‑27 academic year.
  • Must be able to work in person on the University of Redlands main campus (Redlands, CA).
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills for student support and collaboration.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, experience supporting diverse individuals.
  • Willingness and ability to handle confidential student and departmental information.
  • Ability to take initiative on department tasks and projects.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in career services or similar academic/student‑facing departments.
  • Experience organizing presentations and workshops for group and one‑on‑one settings.
  • Event planning experience.
  • Strong office and customer service experience.
Marketable Skills
  • Deep understanding of career readiness topics and career guidance & exploration.
  • Interpersonal skills with higher education stakeholders (employers, alumni, students, staff, administration).
  • Experience developing content for diverse audiences.
  • Polished resume, cover letter, Linked In profile, and ability to articulate value of work.
  • Leadership and teamwork skills through campus‑wide collaboration.
  • Ability to navigate change in a department with new initiatives.
