The Principal Water Resources Engineer Provides technical and managerial leadership for complex water resources and hydraulic engineering programs. The Position will direct multi-disciplinary teams to successful delivery water infrastructure planning, design, and/or program management of medium- to large-scale water systems, leads client engagement, project delivery strategy, quality management, and mentoring of technical staff. The candidate will act as Engineer of Record as needed, manage multi-discipline teams, and ensure deliverables meet all standards and permitting requirements.

Job Duties
  • Serves as technical authority for water resources engineering, providing oversight and final review for a variety of projects including, pipelines, booster stations, lift stations, reservoirs, and more.
  • Oversees project delivery for significant water resources programs, encompassing planning, design, and construction phases. Responsibilities include managing scope, schedule, budget, risk, and staffing, as well as leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating with subconsultants.
  • Plan, assign, train, instruct, assist, supervise, and evaluate the work of engineering and technical staff.
  • Oversee permitting and stakeholder coordination, including preparation/review of technical memoranda, reports, and design packages for agencies (e.g., water agencies, city/county public works) and coordination of environmental compliance as applicable.
  • Establishes and enforces quality management practices (QA/QC , independent technical reviews, constructability reviews) and ensures compliance with applicable codes/standards and contract requirements; acts as Engineer of Record when required.
  • Mentors and develops staff, provides technical coaching and performance feedback, supports recruiting, and advances practice standards, tools, and training for water resources engineering.
Qualifications
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in water resources engineering design (pipelines, reservoirs, pumping plants, and/or treatment facilities)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; ability to serve as Engineer of Record
  • MINIMUM 3 years of experience in project management
  • Demonstrated leadership in technical oversight, QA/QC, mentoring, and managing multi-disciplined teams and subconsultants.
  • Strong client-facing skills, including agency coordination, proposal development, and interview/presentation experience.
  • Skilled in water resources tools (e.g., Innovise, Aquanuity, Bentley, EPANET, GIS, etc.) and CAD platforms like AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Working knowledge of applicable standards and permitting frameworks (e.g., local water purveyor criteria, and relevant state/federal regulations as applicable).
