GIS Engineering Internship
Build Information Products That MatterAs a GIS Engineering Intern at Esri, you will work with engineers who transform how the ArcGIS user community applies GIS. You will contribute to datasets, data layers, maps, applications, and spatial analysis work that help users understand information and make better decisions.
What You’ll ExperienceGain hands-on knowledge of the software development lifecycle, GIS applications, and real project work.
Create and improve datasets, design data layers, develop maps and applications, and analyze spatial data.
Work with mentors and team members while contributing to location-based content and GIS workflows.
Use GIS, Web GIS, cartography, spatial analysis, data visualization, and map creation skills in practical settings.
Enhance basemaps by improving cartographic design, adding layers, ensuring data accuracy, or exploring new data sources.
Create thematic maps for industries such as transportation, urban planning, or environmental analysis.
Integrate, clean, transform, merge, and synthesize data to create useful GIS datasets.
Perform GIS data analysis, spatial queries, geoprocessing tasks, visualizations, or small-scale GIS application development.
Hands-on experience with GIS engineering, spatial data, cartography, and location-based content.
Exposure to dataset development, thematic mapping, data integration, geoprocessing, visualization, and GIS application concepts.
Mentorship, feedback, and a clearer view of GIS engineering career paths at Esri.
Connections with fellow interns and professionals across the company.
Are currently enrolled in a four-year undergraduate, graduate, or PhD program at a university in the United States, majoring in GIS, geography, or a related field and are anticipating graduation in 2027 or 2028.
For undergraduate students, are in junior or senior standing.
Have knowledge of or experience with GIS, Web GIS, cartography, and location-based content.
Have knowledge of or experience with spatial analysis, data visualization, and map creation.
Can complete a consecutive, onsite 12-week internship beginning in May or June 2027.
Are able to obtain work authorization in the United States in 2027.
