This role operates at a systems level, bridging Products, Solutions, Services, Sales, and external partners to define what successful, durable utility systems look like at scale.

A Sr. Principal Technical Consultant will advise executive sponsors on cost, risk, and organizational impact; guide Arc Map migration strategies; and help shape the evolution of Esri’s Utilities market approach by identifying scalable adoption paths and repeatable delivery models.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and consulting expertise for internal Professional Services teams during all phases of ArcGIS implementation including requirements, analysis, design, build/configuration, and deployment
  • Operate horizontally across Esri—collaborating with Products, Solutions, Services, Sales, and external partners—to align strategy, define organizational ownership, and drive decisions that optimize for long-term utility system success
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive stakeholders, partners, and directors, applying sound judgment to guide decision-making and architect innovative, scalable solutions leveraging Esri technology and data
  • Build and influence cross-company partnerships, collaborating with external industry experts and internal leaders to drive alignment, unlock new opportunities, and elevate strategic outcomes
  • Act as an expert, advise utility customers on Arc Map migration strategies, system architecture tradeoffs, and adoption paths that balance data fidelity, usability, organizational change management, and long-term sustainability
  • Identify and operationalize the value of location intelligence within customer workflows, developing and executing strategies that maximize ROI and drive long-term adoption of Esri solutions
  • Provide business development support toward Utilities market growth, including grid modernization, electrification, climate resiliency, and AI readiness initiatives, with new and existing utility customers and partners
  • Mentor and develop senior consultants and emerging leaders, elevating consulting excellence, strategic thinking, and enterprise-level delivery capabilities
Requirements
  • 15+ years of professional experience in GIS and enterprise consulting
  • Proven ability to design, implement, and/or administer enterprise GIS solutions and systems for utility infrastructure, including Utility Network (UN) or Network Information Management Systems (NIMS), leveraging Esri software products
  • Evaluate and translate customer's business goals, objectives, and strategies into technical and creative plans and solutions using Esri products
  • Demonstrated professional experience in communicating technical ideas effectively and clearly to technical peers, project managers, executive sponsors, and utility industry partners, including translating complex system risks and tradeoffs into business-level framing
  • Expert level understanding of Esri software products and how they relate to customers’ needs
  • Knowledge of current technology implementation patterns that leverage Esri software products including cloud and service-oriented
  • Engage, collaborate, and facilitate with Tier 1 utility customers, Esri partners, and internal cross-divisional teams at executive, program, and technical levels to align on strategy and delivery
  • Knowledge of and experience with software engineering and/or robust application development principles and practices
