Job Title

Video Surveillance Operator

Job Description

Only the first 150 applications will be accepted. $17.29 Hourly. This is a part-time position. Up to 1000 Hours Per Fiscal Year. Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties involved in the operation of video surveillance and video equipment in the Police Dispatch Center. Monitors and operates video cameras using various computer systems and computer equipment to identify crime and disturbance issues, make notifications to violators, and capture video and images for evidentiary purposes.

Utilizes a Computer-Aided Dispatch System to monitor and enter calls for non-emergency services. Responsible for saving, transferring, and downloading video as necessary. May testify in court. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Examples of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Monitors live and recorded video feeds to identify criminal activity, disturbances, traffic issues, suspicious behavior, and other incidents requiring law enforcement attention.
  • Documents observations by preparing clear, accurate, and concise reports of incidents, crimes, and other noteworthy events.
  • Creates, labels, saves, transfers, downloads, and manages digital images, video evidence, and other media using specialized software.
  • Makes public announcements, provides warnings, and communicates pertinent information through department camera and public address systems.
  • Monitors multiple video displays simultaneously while maintaining situational awareness and prioritizing incidents.
  • Notifies the appropriate City personnel and department staff of incidents requiring response or follow-up.
  • Conducts vehicle registration and records checks through the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) and relays pertinent information to department personnel.
  • Receives and processes non-emergency calls from the public requesting police; determines the nature, location, and priority of incidents in accordance with established procedures.
  • Operates public safety telecommunications equipment, including telephone, radio, computer-aided systems, video monitoring systems, teletype, fax, copier, and other office equipment; performs basic equipment testing as required.
  • Enters, updates, and retrieves information related to wanted persons, stolen property, stolen vehicles, vehicle registrations, and other law enforcement records.
  • Communicates effectively with police officers, dispatchers, City personnel, and other department staff to coordinate responses and share critical information.
  • Utilizes telephone, computer, radio, and video monitoring systems simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Learns and applies department policies, procedures, police codes, practices, and methods related to public safety communications and camera operations.
  • Maintains knowledge of the City's geography, streets, landmarks, and key facilities to support effective incident monitoring and response.
  • Exercises sound judgment, prioritizes multiple tasks, and remains calm while working under pressure in emergency and high-stress situations.
  • Provides professional, courteous, and effective customer service when interacting with the public and City personnel.
Qualifications

Experience:

Experience in law enforcement support is highly desirable. Successfully complete the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) within 6 month of hire date. Experience with high volume telephone's and/or video monitoring experience is preferred.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.

License:
Possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License.

  • Ability to work in a standard office environment and travel to various City facilities and locations as needed.
  • Ability to work in an enclosed environment for extended periods while maintaining focus and attention to detail.
