Description Join our team and help keep our community clean, safe, and running smoothly. We're looking for a dependable, safety-focused driver who takes pride in delivering reliable public service every day.

Under supervision, operates equipment on assigned routes; performs commercial and residential refuse collection and recycling activities; and performs minor maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

Examples of Duties

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Operates a variety of heavy equipment including solid waste front loaders, rear loaders, automated solid waste collection vehicles, and recycling vehicles;
  • Follows assigned route(s), servicing containers which are located on the property of residential and/or commercial customers to collect and load refuse and/or recycling vehicles; transfers refuse to landfill;
  • Performs pre/post-trip inspections which may include duties such as checking oil, tires, and fluid levels of vehicle; identify and report mechanical or other problems to supervisor;
  • Informs the supervisor of operating condition of solid waste collection vehicles, vehicular accidents, and conditions which prevent pick-ups of refuse and/or recyclables as scheduled;
  • Assists with training new personnel;
  • Tag bins and recycling when necessary to inform customers of proper collection procedures and notifies supervisor; engage courteously with customers and general public;
  • Refers complaints to the appropriate supervisor or manager;
  • Prepares and maintains records; and
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

Experience:
  • One year of responsible experience in driving/operating heavy equipment and/or commercial vehicles.
  • Experience in refuse collection and operating solid waste vehicles is desirable.
Education
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
Licenses And Certificates
  • Possession of a valid California commercial driver's license.
Special Requirements

Essential functions and duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:

  • Regularly sit, stand, walk, kneel, bend, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, climb, and lift up to 65 lbs.;
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate and reach with hands and arms;
  • Regularly exposure to heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards;
  • Regularly travel to different sites and locations; and
  • Must be able to communicate with others and to exchange information accurately.
