Position Title Adult Basic Skills Instructor – Spanish GED (bilingual)

Starting Wage/Salary $35,780 - $37,818 plus exceptional benefits. This position is grant-funded through June 30, 2027 with no guarantee of employment after that date.

This position provides adult basic skills instruction in Spanish to individuals in the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) seeking to earn their GED or improve their foundational academic skills. The instructor serves a diverse population of Spanish-speaking adult learners, including those preparing for high school equivalency as well as those transitioning to college and career pathways. This role delivers standards-based instruction in math, science, language arts, and social studies;

administers assessments; and participates in curriculum development. The position also requires strong organizational skills to maintain structured instructional materials, manage workload independently, and ensure proper documentation for student intake, registration, and attendance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide standards-based GED instruction in Spanish in math, science, language arts, and social studies (in-person or online).
  • Administer formal and informal assessments to determine levels of ability and readiness for GED testing.
  • Participate in curriculum development and maintenance, including course outcomes and instructional materials.
  • Tutor students individually or in groups.
  • Advise students on educational goals and next steps.
  • Cooperate with College personnel to assist student transitions to college and career pathways.
  • Attend trainings, meetings, and professional development.
  • Work with ABS leadership and staff to meet program expectations.
  • Maintain student records including intake, registration, attendance, and progress tracking.
  • Support structured and organized instructional practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish and English.
  • Knowledge of GED subject areas.
  • Understanding of adult learning and classroom dynamics.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA.
Ergonomic Requirements

Teaching and additional assignments will be in the evening, typically Monday – Thursday per week; 4 – 9pm. Classes taught either via Zoom or on the Redmond COCC Campus. Office hours are generally scheduled around class times. Some work duties may be completed remotely at the discretion of the supervisor.

Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in math, science, language arts, education, adult education, social studies, or closely related discipline.
Experience
  • One-year experience teaching at the secondary or college level.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with standards-based curriculum.
  • Experience teaching adult learners.
  • Experience teaching in GED subject areas.
  • Ability to organize curriculum systems.
  • Experience with diverse populations.
  • Familiarity with student progress tracking.
