Role Description

The Housing Specialist administers the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program within HUD regulations, Housing Works policies, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements. Responsibilities include determining initial and continued eligibility, maintaining accurate case files, and interacting with landlords and tenants in a courteous and professional manner. The successful candidate champions the mission by collaborating with service agencies, landlords, and community advocates to support program participants.

Knowledge

and Skills
  • Ability to navigate or willingness to learn HUD’s EIV system, DHS systems, OED tools, and related databases.
  • Proficiency in keyboarding and 10-key.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, and internet-based applications.
  • Strong customer service and professional communication skills.
  • Ability to answer phones professionally.
  • Ability to prepare written and oral presentations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HUD and Housing Works guidelines.
  • Ability to clearly communicate program responsibilities to participants and landlords.
  • Strong multitasking skills; ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
