Summary
This position serves as a Crew Supervisor and Smokejumper Operations Manager for a national shared resource smoke jumper program at a USDA Forest Service Unit in the Pacific Northwest Region, Region 6. The role involves planning, scheduling, and coordinating all smoke jumper operations and analyzing budget needs for fire and prescribed fire operations. The position also provides direct supervision of an Assistant Manager and may supervise a Spotter, offering administrative and technical supervision.
MajorDuties
Plans, schedules, and coordinates all aspects of smoke jumper operations. Analyzes and predicts budget needs for all fire and prescribed fire operations and submits budget proposals for inclusion in the group annual work plan. Directly supervises an Assistant Manager and may also supervise a Spotter. Provides administrative and human resource management functions for the staff supervised. Develops and maintains roles and responsibilities for smokejumpers and fire specialists.
Provides advice and counsel to workers on work and administrative matters. Establishes group smoke jumper operations guidelines and writes, edits, updates, and approves relevant guidelines and reports for internal use.

Other InformationSalary range is presented as the locality pay Rest of U.S. (RUS) and varies by location. The position includes a one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period. Promotion potential is available under a career development plan but is not guaranteed. This is a non‑bargaining unit position.
